East Anglia is a lot quieter than the South-East in my experience. I don't wish to deny anyone anything as long as they can keep up with modern traffic. As stated above, stuff like MGBs have no difficulty in so doing - but a 602cc or less 2CV making sod all power cannot, and has all the crash protection of a KitKat wrapper...
And yes, the Olympics thoroughly pissed me off, and not just because of it keeping me trapped in my home all weekend - I objected to being forced to pay without my consent for the whole waste-of-cash farce that the Games were - a hell of a lot of money completely down the drain and no silver lining to the thundercloud - the only legacy being that the Lycra Louts are more numerous and aggressive than ever before. Why it should be mandatory for every petrolhead to support road closures for motorsport I cannot think. We have dozens of race-tracks and HUNDREDS of old abandoned WW2 airfields littering the country - go and use them if you want to go really fast!

A self deprecating motoring hack wears a silly hat and tools around in a rat look 2CV. Is this some kind of wind-up, or a weak attempt to demonstrate he's not a one dimensional drifter?
I think I will hunt down a rat look Austin Allegro and pretend to my mates it's really good fun and who needs 500hp, when 50hp and hyrdalastic suspension is just sooooo much fun. Maybe all the girls will just go wild for my brown velour interior too.

It's funny you should pick the MGB as an example, as when I'm out & about in my 602 and come across one, as I did recently, they're invariably in the way (along with everyone else to be fair). In fact there was a tongue in cheek thread in the Yesterdays Heroes forum quite recently asking why they are the slowest Classic on the road and seemingly incapable of more than 55mph? I went to Wales and back in my 602 over the last BH weekend, we took the scenic route across country. I was overtaken a few times and those overtaking me had no problem in doing so. But on the whole I was the one doing the overtaking, time and time again, as I wanted to do 50-60mph but seemingly everyone else in their moderns wanted to do 40-50mph. I spent the entire journey overtaking almost everything, and great fun it was too, that was the point of taking the route we did, for a fun drive. One of the cars I overtook was the obligatory MGB going, as ever, slower than Doris in her Micra. At a petrol stop, an old boy in a Caterham who had passed me very shortly beforehand commented how much he'd enjoyed following me and my amusing cornering angles before he'd blasted past.
The National speed limit out on the open road is 60mph (unless it's a 50) and the motorway limit is 70. I have no problem keeping up with and leaving regular traffic behind in my 602 all the way up to whatever speed limit is in force, including the motorway limit. The reason is not because my 2CV is fast, because it certainly is not. The reason is that everyone else seems to drive so bloody slowly. My car is also my daily driver, on the way to work I leave a roundabout on a two lane slip road to join a dual carriageway, despite a 0-60 time of 27 seconds, I usually have to pull out and use L2 to pass slower traffic ahead of me in L1 before I join the main carriageway.
As well as being my daily driver for the last two years, it has also taken us around France a couple of times on Holiday, this year it's taking us to Poland and Ukraine (Chernobyl & Pripyat). This would hardly be possible if they were as underpowered as you suggest. It makes fairly normal progress (unless uphill, that is where it can lose speed and momentum significantly, but even then, nowhere near as bad as an HGV).
My other car is a Bentley Turbo R, and much as I love old Ballers, little 'ercule is the better car, less is more and all that.
I think you need to have a drive of a decent 2CV with a 602 and discs.
Bonjour Monsieur!
You either don't know very much about cars or don't understand what fitness for purpose means. Or possibly both . The 2CV was fitter for its intended purpose than virtually anything other than the Ford Model T and Beetle. And better to drive than either I suspect- it certainly is far more fun than the Beetles which I have driven but Ts are still on my must do list

Great stuff! I know next to nothing about 2CVs so it's very interesting to hear of these accounts of people still using them as normal cars.Good luck on the big trip eastwards. Then again, should anything go wrong I guess sourcing parts for a 2CV in that part of the world is going to be rather easier than for a Bentley!
