Shouldn't it have 5 1/2 exhausts? How will people know that it is faster than the normal R?

The Golf R gets close to its claimed combined 40mpg?

I guess if you consider mid 20s as close that is true.
hehe

Just noticed I was replying to a very old thread response - sorry.

I'm not convinced that's the R400 - looks too normal.

I'm in spending £50k on a Golf - something I'd have no problem with if I had £50k for a car now - I'd want something outrageous (and therefore cool).

Interesting they're testing it in 5 door guise. I assumed it would be 3 door only.

There are a lot of bits that haven't carried over from the concept car. It will be a shame if that stays the same.

Cue another 1000 posts of haters...

It seems to have flared arches. Add the wheels and finishing touches (yellow fascia line and calipers) from the concept and you're almost there...

To me that picture is misleading.

I'm sure it's been posted before but the link below is better at trying to demonstrate what it may look like.

If it does look like the pictures posted, I'm sad. frown

I assume the blue one above is some sort of test mule - I doubt even VAG would make it look that similar to the regular R. I have to admit the one in the video does look pretty damn good, but then the looks were never the dealbreaker for me.

They should go anti exhausts with this one. One skinny little pea shooter pipe tucked into the nearside corner.

It looks more like one of those trainers-on-wheels things than ever.

Or they should make it actually noisy.

Not really possible with a turbo four - at least, it wouldn't make a nice noise.

How so? Inline fours don't make nice noises, with the possible exception of the old Lampredi twin-cam engines used by Alfa Romeo and Fiat, and the Honda K20 - and even with those I feel they'd sound far more musical with another two cylinders. Adding turbos only increases the dullness. Subaru flat fours at least make a bit of thunder, but their six-cylinder siblings are much nicer...

Nope. Nowhere near.
