Another contribution for the embarrassing threads in the lounge, so much bks being spouted. We all share the roads, they are busy places these days and frustrating for everyone. Trucks though keep the country moving, yes there is some poor driving, there is just as much poor driving from school run mums to frantic BWM owners trying to make their next appointment.

We have enough rules on the roads already though, many of which are ignored, mainly because they are fking stupid and knee jerk. Introducing more stupid restriction will not help anybody and will only result in a further revenue gathering exercise for the treasury on the odd occasion they decide to have a clamp down, that clamp down mainly invoked due to being short on the fines target for that month.

why don't we regenerate energy when trucks brake, and store this giving trucks a boost button…. with special areas where they can use this power to get past another truck. And it will be so exciting, watching them all overtake right at the point where we know they are going to overtake that all those on the motorway that witness it won't have to watch the F1 snorathon at the weekend?

I'd also go as far as to say anything that is not a car is not allowed in the outside lane.
Yeah, it'd be a struggle to keep up.

OK. And sensible bikers then.

If F1 cant get this to be fully reliable, what hope have the budget driven truck manufacturers got.

On a plus point tho it would be fun.

well I think its time us truckers stuck to the rules

40mph on single carriage ways from now on then I wonder how many threads there will be by arsehat car drivers who don't realise that's our speed limit.

I did it on the a52 today from Grantham and must have had a half mile queue of traffic behind me by the time I got to Bingham. made I smile it did

Yip, sounds like a great plan. manufactures should set to work on this immediately. Should only take a few 100 million in investment.

Or alternatively they could just switch off the restrictors

Ditto !! And its boring but trucks are keeping the country running.....
Which excuses them driving dangerously, how, exactly?
Total non-sequitur. Are you some kind of fool? Has anyone suggested trucks are seeking an excuse for their driving?

You sound like a product of the nanny state.

How about just use the kers/boost button to give you 60 seconds of non limited driving.
On a decent hill i reckon fully loaded you would be able to touch 80 to keep up with the other traffic.

If trucks were de-restricted, everyone would then complain about increased prices of everything due to the increased fuel usage the hauliers would have to pay for.

^^^This^^^

I spend a huge amount amount of time in the USA and the much vaunted Interstate system is pretty much a dual carriageway.

Trucks there are unrestricted and have the power to overtake whatever they want and quite happily roll along at whatever the speed limit is. Mostly 75mph in Texas.
It is super rare to get held up by "elephant racing" anywhere.

In anticipation.......

No, you don't see more accidents
Yes, I have got an HGV license and have driven one over there

Following yesterdays tragic accident and the arrest of an HGV driver maybe the above option
should at least be trialled, especially in any roadwork zones.
.
How would restricting HGVs to lane 1 have avoided an accident caused by a HGV driving into the back of stationary traffic and not in any roadworks?

In fact I think you'll find that the traffic that he hit was sitting in lane 1.

Everything will be alright when all the truckers have their CPC wink. Also how about educating the car drivers who sit in the left hand lane doing 50 to 55 mph? counting their mpg, not a care in the world and no idea what hassle it causes trucks that are restricted to 56 clap

All freight should be on rails. Simple really.
And how do you intend to handle abnormal loads?

The railways can't even transport their own rolling-stock via rail.....so FAIL!!!

Abnormal loads travel at night perhaps?

Maybe the geriatric item of rolling stock is not fit to be moved on the railways?

Why don't we ban cars while Lorries are trying to move things around ? Let the lorries have the roads in the day time and the cars can come out at night.
