80s hot hatches are doing well
80s hot hatches have well turned

205 gtis were being sold for £200-300 7-8 years ago
now you are talking 10x minimum
Perhaps but my 205 was sold to its last owner in 2007 for £3995 by just gtis and I bought it 8 months ago for much less than that.

Saxo VTS
106 GTI & Rallye
306 GTI6 & Rallye
Mondeo ST24
406 Coupe V6
Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo

Just to name but a few, but obviously unmolested examples.

As said earlier, just look at what a Nova, 205 GTi and XR2's, AX GT's fetch nowadays, when 7-10 years ago they were only a few hundred quid!

Just looked at the list of cars you own
if we did this thread a few years ago then pretty much every one you own would or should have be on it

so what have you got your eye on at the moment

If you look at these 80s hatches there is a fine line between the examples for £3995 and £7995 and again upto £15k, for me that combined with previous increases in value means they will only rise further.

I think decent 205 gtis, mk1 golf gtis, escort rs turbos, Renault 5gt turbo could well be £10k in a few years time, that's why I when there's a cheap one on ebay I buy one.

Fiat Coupe are great but perhaps just too anonymous, needs to have a cult following.

Mk1 golf cabriolets look value at the moment compared to the hatch.

Audi 80 convertible could be a winner

e24 635

2cv

calibra - these are almost worthless now

928 - these are a lot of car for no money

fiat x1/9

E46 M3 CSL (on the way up already?)
You're 12-18 months too late I'm afraid
There are a few specialists trying to force the price to rise. £30k has been the going rate for a looked after one for a while, but are getting few and far between.
£20-25k was the going rate not so long ago

The E34 M5 has long had rock-solid Collector prospects, but E34 5-series BWMs generally are on or just past the cusp IMO. They've really dissappeared from the classifieds over the last 2-3years and values for models left in fair or better condition appear to be rising. Not that they'll make you rich, but they remain really useable depreciation-free cars!

A lot of e36 m3s seem like they're hitting their lowest point around now.

On the nose. I watch e36 prices closely. Good original m3s are turning now. For cheaper option buy manual 328i coupe and hold for a good 3-4 years minimum.

They do seem like a sound purchase all across the range, as do c36 AMGs come to think of it.

Hardly a mention of some British cars and no mainstream volume production ones? Or, do the hard core of PH car enthusiasts and badge snobs consider home product unworthy ? If they do, they are wrong.

C5 RS6's especially Avants have seen prices firm up and increase.

Compare to a year ago you'd see many adverts £7-8k look now still similar number for sale but they are starting at £10k and extending a lot further.

I'd also say E55 K W211 has formed up a lot - I'm keen on these so have noticed the market move upwards

But never buy a car for its possible increase in value assume it depreciates like any other car and IF it does increase or not depreciate then that's a nice problem to have

I am hoping the ST24 does, I have one that I am currently putting back on the road. I think as I have mentioned before the ST200 is the safer bet.

I really struggle to think that these will increase in value (st24 no chance) - only the Rallye's at a punt but they will always be cheap end classics).

E34 M5
E36 M3 Evo
TVR Chimaera
S2000
996 TT
996 GT3 and GT2
Ferrari 430's are cheap
997.1 C2S's cheapest £16k how can you go wrong the 996's don't really go under £10k and they are cars which are not far off ten years older. A smart buy IMHO from a low depreciation perspective.

The thing is these models were just top of the range at that timeframe they were not class leading so if you look back what have Cavalier GSI Turbos done value wise... Zero what about the Ultimas great cars but even the "Cosworth" models are banger territory.

How about the Renault Spider or the Elise S1 great cars they will not go lower TVR Cerberas smart buys and great cars. But as nice as the Mondys are they are simply run of the mill cars and not the Key RS models. Might be wrong but I cannot see it - if it does its a nice problem to have if not you'd never planned for it to give you a nice bonus.

MGF is stupidly cheap, a mid engined convertable easily bought for £500.
Mondeo ST24, Toyota Celica and MR2 2 and 3.
Vectra GSi
Despite the terrible gearbox the Smart coupe.
Mk5 and 6 Escorts, judging by the silly prices of every other Escort.
Astra Bertone coupe, very much a future classic i would think, surprisingly good car too.
Fiat Chinqicento getting scarce these days.(no idea of correct spelling).

BMW E36 328s are at their bottom value now. Wouldn't surprise me if they climbed soon.
MK1 MK5s
Impreza Turbos (classic shape)

2 years ago I had so much trouble trying to sell my near perfect 2.8 Final Edition with 60k miles and every single optional extra going. I can only imagine the value will go up, but mine was reaching the stage it was getting expensive to maintain it in the condition it was.

205 GTI prices have gone up very noticeably even in the past 6-12 months. Not sure whether it's because there have been a few articles about them in their 30th year anniversary, or if it's just part of the revived interest in hot hatches. People are prepared to pay very good prices for original/unmodfied. In a similar vein, I'd say R5GTT and Clio Williams will do quite well too.
