Must be the midday sun here in GOC (Gods Own Country) but through these jaundiced, and squinting eyes, the number plate seems to read Snotter B....

I had a GTB for a couple of years too. Bought for £1,700, 20,000 (fast) miles, admittedly replaced gearbox and clutch, then sold 2 years later for £1,700. I miss that car...

I have the same car but in saloon guise:

Ugly and thirsty lol, but without doubt one of the best cars I've owned. Utterly reliable, comfy and no knocks or rattles inside. The autobox is a bit dim-witted at times but then it's very old tech by today's standards.

Nothing's gone wrong in almost 3 years and I'd have another in a heartbeat. I fancy the 3.0 in the next Gen next though.

I've heard good things that these can be surprisingly frugal.

Surely you'd have to drive like a saint in a largish 2.5 4wd petrol estate to get 25mpg?

I've had a GTB for about 5 years and frequently get 30+ mpg on open road trips - best average over (most of) a tank has been 33. Mid 20s in mixed use, low 20s if I'm mainly doing short trips around town where it barely gets up to temperature.
Respectfully Ben you've been saying this for years but you are the only person who ever gets this mpg from a turbo Legacy.

A cracking shed. Subaru Estates are pretty much the quintessential all season, all reason cars. I have a battered old Forester, it gets totally abused and never cleaned, the most attention I give it is an oil change every few thiusand miles and it is metronomic. Will definitely be getting another to use for load lugging purposes when/if it ever expires

Not so - my 05 GT (Gen 4, single turbo) will do 35 on a run quite easily. Different matter entirely around town.

Back to the Shed - I ran a 1999 2.5 wagon a few years ago as my first Subaru. Couldn't have been too bad as I'm now on my fourth. I reckon that did about 35mpg on a run too.

He is in a warmer climate though so it could be possible. All I know is I get 250 miles from £75 of super, whatever that works out at.

I don't think the Legacy's (at least in this vintage) are ugly in the slightest, I think the saloon is quite pretty but the wagon is one of the best looking estates made for many many years.

Is that image a negative? Normally grey body on gold wheels, shirley?

I have a small garden, no garage but a large drive. The wife says we need a shed. This is the answer!

It's no good, I'm going to have to ask: what does IBTT mean? paperbag
In Before The Title.
Ah, OK. Er… so what does it mean in this context? paperbagpaperbag
I'll help - it means that when this thread was started on the forum it didn't have a title - admin or a moderator have retrospectively added one - So those that comment IBTT are just showing how clever they are to get into a thread with no title.....

Why does it have odd unmatchimg alloys in the lead picture? Silver at the front gold at the back interesting choice. Doesn't bode well. Recon this has been bought even cheaper spruced up and moved on

really you think that off one photo when the others show gold alloys all round. look like the spare was used for 1 photo hopefully replaced now, unless where you come from punctures don't happen..

I know someone who had one of these and really liked it, but I find them strangely unappealing.

Looks like you're down under too. Clearly there's something in the air (or petrol) that improves the mpg in the southern hemisphere smile

My figures are nothing out of the ordinary among NZ Subaru owners, there may be differences due to location though - things like low population density hence less traffic, and a 100km/h speed limit that gets enforced reasonably strictly on main roads so there isn't much of the sustained 90mph cruising I see mentioned on here at times.

I had one of these, manual. Likeable, capable, car but I couldn't get more than 26/27mpg on average.

I tracked it once at Castle Combe for fun. It wasn't bad at all. It's no track car of course, but it put in a good enough show for an old estate. The steering and turn in is better than competitors. It did roll a bit though...
