Shed of the Week: Subaru Legacy

Just flogged my 2005 2.5 estate. Fantastic car for snow, lugging stuff and comfy too with heated leather and a massive sunroof. Amazing grip if a bit rolly in the bends too. I got around 29-32mpg and it was tres reliable, though official parts are pricey. Good shed this one though the next gen are better looking!

That's pretty good. My Forester XT averages around the same, but I'd expect a 3.0 auto to do worse. Couple of gripes is the seats and ride on mine. The seats have hard bases and are not supportive and the rides a bit wooden. Everything else is great.

How does that compare to a Legacy? Better as a long distance cruiser?

And my 2005 2.5 estate sitting on the drive right now pretty does 29-32 on mixed driving over the last 60,000 miles. Now over 150,000 on it although the power steering is acting up and its anybody's guess if the assistance will kick in on any given bend Does make you concentrate though. Unfortunately I think its going to have to go to the dealer to diagnose what's wrong with it as local garage is struggling.

Truly excellent cars. I've had my 2.5 auto (2001 model) for 6 months now and it's been the best car I've owned. I thought about a Forester but it simply didn't have the space this provided to lug kids and family around with all the luggage in the boot. I'm the first to be contacted now for airport runs too which shows how good it is.

I've managed 33mpg on a nice long run so it's possible. Around town? Forget it. I average 22 (pushing 23) mpg if I'm lucky.

Properly happy with this car though. Comfortable and (touch wood) reliable.

Would I buy another? Definitely.
