Nissan Almera 2.2dci (136ps)
Discussion
Hi guys,
Time has come to replace my parents trusty mk1 ford focus 1.8 tdci. They have owned it for over 4 years now and it has been a reliable car. We are considering the Almera 2.2dci as a replacement. What are these like? I know it will be much more powerful than their focus. Also there is slight confusion on whether this is a Renault or Nissan engine. Would like to now past/present owners views on the car and what they are like such as are they reliable.
How much should they expect to pay for a decent example?
Thanks for reading.

I have an almera tino with the 2.2 dci, if I had my choice again I would have bought something else, engine is fast but not at all smooth, it's a pretty horrid engine as diesels go, I much preferred the vw equivalent and the Alfa Romeo 2.4. That age almera is also around the time the quality went down hill, cheap and nasty over complicated dashboards. Can I ask why? Ford focus to almera is quite a change!

I'd avoid the mk2 Almera, shambolic handling and piss-poor ride.
depends on what you are comparing it too. its alot nicer to drive than my fiat stilo was and alot softer ride than other cars i have been in. it does waft about corner but can carry some decent speed (driving god, perhaps?)interiors can be a bit odd (mine's a light green car with a turqoise interior) and there is a few rattles. other than that its hard to moan about the almera considering you can have a real nice one for £1000

do they need a diesel? ive found my 1.5 petrol nissan to be plenty reliable to date and its getting 38mpg combined and it may also be for sale ;-)
To be honest I have thought about the 1.5 but diesels seem to be more refined compared to 4 cylinder petrol's. if its within forum rules can you give me a link to your car.
Just had a quick test drive in mates pd130 and honestly I think this will suit my parents better. What do I need to look out on these. I know these 130 are the best variants in gt tdi due to having both performance and reliability. In their price budget these tend to be high mileage, what should i be wary of when going to view some examples.
Thanks
Thanks
Ive had two Vag pd engined cars, first a Fabia VRS 130 bhp, 6 speed, and now a Ibiza 110 bhp 5 speed. The Ibiza is more economical- i get 60-64 on motorway comute at 70.
The 6 speed box only reduces the revs by 150 rpm so dosen't really make much difference in that sense.
I've driven the mk4 golf pd 110 but never owned one. Fast enough in 110 guise for a run around.

Yep i understand where your coming from regarding another big diesel. The reason for this is diesels tend to feel more refined compared to petrol 4 pots. I have recently bought a mint polo 6n2 1.4 and i offered them that as a runaround but they did not like it and i understand coming from a diesel the polo wasn't as refined. Reading up on the Almera they are not that great and tend to be problematic so i have turned my search to a VW Golf mk4 gt tdi 130pd.
