Basically saving for a deposit on a mortgage atm and will be selling my car (Hot hatch worth 7k euros or so) and don't want every tom dick and harry coming around to my folks place (dad has a new car/other stuff there i don't want potential thieves seeing).

Do you guys always meet the unknown buyer party in a third party location (public place obviously) when the come to look at the car first ?

If it was my own house i wouldn't mind but its not and i live in the sticks.

Personally I wouldn't buy a car for sale privately from anywhere other than the registered address on the V5.

Far too many possibilities of it being a dodgy sale otherwise.....

As above, wouldn't consider buying from a public place unless it was a £500 shed

Just exercise a little bit more caution over who you allow to come and view it.

Maybe tuck your dad's car away, or park yours on the road near the house.

don't see the problem with buying away from registered address provided the owner brings their driving license and it matches that on the v5. its a shame that its come to this but you can't be too careful nowadays.

I wouldn't buy a car if I had to meet the seller at a neutral venue.

Buying a used car privately
...
Don't let the owner bring the car to you or meet you in a lay by, petrol station or similar – view it at their home, in daylight and take someone with you for company and security.

Does the seller really appear to be the owner?

Is it their home?
Does the address match the one on the V5C?
They should be familiar with the car and its controls.

If you really don't want people coming around to your house - sell to webuyanycar or similar.
You will take a bit of a hit - but your carpet will remain stranger free.

You're making a lot of fuss about a perceived risk which is probably all nonsense, almost certainly complicating and slowing down the sale in the process. Contrary to the popular saying you can indeed be too careful.

You could offer to meet someone at a local petrol station or something, make out your place is difficult to find, it might come across as helpful. That said, i'd want to see the car from cold so wouldn't be happy with that.

I don't really see the issue? Is your dads fence made of gold or something?

Agreed. I also don't like being robbed and bumraped.
