So we've currently got two cars, my 3000GT, and the misses Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 shopping trolley, here pictures ourside our old flat :

The GT has been more off the road, then on it in the last year, with the bottem end of the engine going not long after i bought it, and then driving back from Holland last summer the rebuild engine also causing problems and again needing hefty repair bills.

Basically i've had enough of it, and don't want to throw another 5 - 6 grand at it to fix it again, so it's going.

We've also bought our very first house a few months ago, and as it has a garage this now means i can finally get the tvr chimaera i've always wanted. woohoo

However getting the tvr is still a few months away, as selling the GT for parts is going slower then i thought it would, and we've also just booked our wedding for january next year, getting married on the beach in the Dominican Republic, so that's eaten up a lot of the savings.

Now my misses doesn't really drive her Corsa as she commutes to London by train, and has probably driven it twice in the last 3 yeas, but it has got a sentimentel value as it's her first car.

But as i seem to be driving it more and more, she's finally agreed we can sell or part ex it and we can swap it for something "a bit more fun but nothing too crazy..." scratchchin

As we need to save for the tvr, the wedding, and some bits for the house still i've been given a budget of around £ 2.000, to replace her car with, but which would include selling the Corsa (in good nick, serviced well, less then 40.000 miles) for which i was hoping to get about a grand.

Cars i briefly looked at so far were :

- Mazda RX8 (though not sure if i want another Jap "coupe").
- Alfa GTV (always have had a soft spot for these).
- Jaguar S and/or F type (only because i just saw a new topic in the readers cars on here, and though i like the look of the S type, i don't think their much fun to drive)

But these 2 cars i've always have had a soft spot for :

The E36 convertible, and then the 325 or 328i models :

And the Clio 182 :

Showing both to the misses she likes the E36 cabrio but says we don't need two drop tops (that and the TVR in a few months) and she likes the Clio 182 as it's the same size of her Corsa so would be easier for her to drive (if she would ever need to drive a car).

We also looked at the E46 beemers, and then at the coupe version (and i'd want a 330i then) but in her budget i've only seen some really high mileage ones.

I like the look of the E46 coupe, but have only driven a 4 door 320i once, and that wasn't much exciting, and despite not having driven an Clio 182 either, i do like the looks and the feedback i get off people driving them.

It'll mainly be used to get to town/the shops etc, as she takes the train and i lives a 10 minute walk away from work, so it wouldn't be needed for commuting or or fun trips away (as we'll use to TVR for that).

So, out of the three, Clio 182, E36 cabrio, and E46 coupe, which would you go for, and is there anything else i should be looking at for around the £ 2000, mark.

Cheers folks! driving

Don't buy a cheap Chimaera...you need x-ray vision and a four leaf clover for that game. It definitely needs a full service history and keep the mileage under 70k imho. Also being willing to throw 2-3k at the vehicle to keep it running would certainly be an advantage.

As for the second car - I'd go for something more reliable (not an Alfa). Clio 182 looks good to me...

True, which is why i'm not buying it this month yet, but will save up for a few more months, so we have a healthier budged, and get a decent one.

Which is why i want to replace the boring corsa with something a bit more fun, so i have something nicer to drive untill the TVR gets here.
