First post, need help - what car to buy?

A few days ago my beloved Alfa Romeo GT was rear ended and looks like it will be written off. As I have a new son, I dont think I will get it by the 'boss' to buy another. On top of that I have started my own business. My alfa was a 56 plate, GT with 130k on the clock and I think the value is ~ £4k

So my question is what car should I get?

Needs to have a bit of space, reliable and perhaps something away from the norm, hence the alfa originally. I wont have much to spend over the £4k. Initial thoughts were an estate or 4x4. [Pretty annoyed, you do everything right and all the other cars drove away but I am left with this problem. My GT was AWESOME and I knew it back to front, tip top condition.]

Any suggestions welcome?

Hey thanks guys. I will look into them. The only challenge is to try and get one in good condition. My GT, even though was old, you do know everything about it.
