I have a few thoughts.

I don't like the interior colour.
Black paint is a ball ache to keep clean.
Not keen on petrol inline 6s or manual gearboxes.
I don't like convertibles.
BMW halogen head lamps are rubbish.
Those alloys are really dated and a nightmare to clean.

But if you like it that's all that matters.
You realise this is PH? Mumsnet might suit you a bit better?

That looks lovely although the lack of the items that were on your list would have me carry on looking. Not for nothing, but I looked at a number of these (plus the coupe) this time last year before finding the 6 series of the same vintage was cheaper to buy and insure at the time (I was living in Surrey, working in London).

Totally different beast to the Z4 obviously so if you're set on having a nimble roadster the heavier 6 probably isn't for you, but thought I'd chuck it in there wink The Z4 is still on my list of cars to own though.

It's nice enough but points to consider is the spec isn't the best, the mileage is on the high side for the price and black is probably the worst colour for the Z4 as it hides the flame surfacing.

Run flats are a must to ditch on these as it transforms the ride.

After owning 3, I wouldn't buy one without the following :

Heated Seats
Xenons
DSP
Wind Deflector
Nav - the screen offers a lot more benefits than just Nav.
Tyres swapped to non RFT (or budget for doing yourself)

For 2k more than that example you could pick a Z4M with less mileage. Also, get registered on Z4forum and there are lots of forum members cars which will be a better prospect wink

Good luck with the search.

Is Mumsnet more accepting of personal preferences?. I don't want to go through the hassle of joining if members there will expect me to like the same things they do.

Not at all, I may have felt that way if the OP had stated he was only interested in thoughts that supported his own.

I think it's lovely - might hold out for xenons and satnav though...

Is a good 3.0 really that cheap now?

I like it (including the interior)...

I've heard the 3.0 when living in the Z4 is a bit of a peach.

A whole lot of car for the money... Snap it up!

its a 3.0Si amazingly - even better than a 3.0, fantastic value and a great car - i had one about 3 years ago, was really great. Mine was low options also - i prefered it like that, the nav it a bit of an afterthought, but the second hand market does seem to like the nav and xenons - i did have heated seats which i think are a nice option for the winter.

buy it!

No grown man should be buying a car with a bright-yellow interior (of wrinkly old leather).

It's a 3 litre BMW, so I'm guessing the OP likes inline sixes.
It's a convertible, so I'm guessing the OP likes convertibles.
The OP can see the interior and exterior colour in the advert, so I'm guessing he likes (or can live with) the colours.
The OP can see the alloys in the advert, so I'm guessing he likes (or can live with) the alloys.

Maybe he was after thoughts about running costs, handling, known problems, etc. etc.

Thank you for the comments so far. To attempt to avoid any flaring up on this particular post I should add some amplification.

I have owned a Z4 before but the pre facelift version so not totally similar. I would welcome any general comments (check drain holes and roof motor) as well as other comments such as 'I have seem that colour combo and it actually looks great / crap' etc.

Some of the comments may be viewed as pedantic but it is fine with me!

Looks OK, and the interior may well be better than all black, as has been said. Has anyone mentioned breaking coil springs? Not too expensive apparently.

Remote roof operation? Didn't think that was standard, apart from a brief period on earlier cars.

Xenons are much better, though better bulbs in the halogens made a significant difference in our E46 for not much money.

Well worth having a good set of non-RFTs, like F1 Asy's which were c £600 iirc.

You may find one with less miles, though how wel it's been cared for probably makes more difference.

Imho the colour choice is limited, but I like black.

Meh doesnt seem that good a price to me?
Those alloys date it massively, the 108's look much better, better still would be a set of csl's which match the z4's shape perfectly and imo make it look absolutely gorgeous.

I've got the same engine in my 130i and it is a good'un which is probably much better in the z4, especially when you do the sound generator mod!

Did consider a z4 instead of my car but they hold their value very well indeed meaning mid 000's cars were well above my budget at the time.

Join up mumsnet and tell them you dislike children. That would be as much help as your post here.

Why the dislike for BMWs? What's wrong with their 6 cylinder engines?

What do you drive out of curiosity? It must be good.

Too many people seem to "dislike" other cars based on what they own. It just often seems like a need to justify their choices rather than an impartial opinion.

I have to ask this I'm afraid: What on earth is there to NOT like about a petrol inline six, and why explicitly petrol you dislike? Do you like diesel straight six's? I'd have to say that a good straight six is probably the best configuration you can get in my mind.
