Hi all,

New to the forum.

Just wandering what the steps would be to bring a Lexus LX570 to the UK from Dubai, UAE. The car is right hand drive.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

There's a contradictory statement if ever there was one ^^

had to google it as no idea what it is. An epic looking vehicle that would be wonderful in the uk as a hybrid especially as an alternative to a 7 seat MPV.

Sorry I've got no idea about importing anything but I'd imaging getting a 5.7l V8 behemoth into the UK from the UAE is going to be expensive. And then the fuel costs! Cracking looking car though, good luck to you.

Make an epic road trip of it and drive it from Dubai to the UK (or ship it of course). To register it in the uk you will need to officially import it, possibly have to pay some duty, and then have it go through and pass an SVA inspection.

Are you sure the car is right hand drive? (Daft question I know)

I just thought they weren't permissible in the UAE.

Also, would it not be more cost effective just to get a v8 LandCruiser here (albeit it would be a smaller v8)

My friend Ayoob had one and then went to an undisguised Toyota LandCruiser so can't be that bad a move.

It's certainly produced in RHD - they sell it in Australia. That might be a better source, as it's a better known route for imports and I think there are some companies that specialise in AUS-UK.

I think it is the same as bringing a car in from Japan. The vehicle will need an SVA (MOT style test) then you will get a V5, then it can be registered with road tax and a number plate. Shipping, VAT, Import Duty and customs clearance should be handled by a shipping agent. The vehicle will need to be towed from the port to the specialist who will then get it SVA tested.

They're fantastic cars. We have one in the US and it's better this the landcruiser here.

Appreciate all the responses. The vehicle is being sold at a bargain price in the UAE as it is RHD. I was mostly asking about the changes that would need to be made such as fog lights etc etc, can anyone shed some light?

It's a year 2013, at around £18,000, sub 30,000 miles...

Um... is this an echo of the old "nicked in Japan, sold in Dubai, imported to UK" setup from the early 2000s? A few UK buyers got burned doing that. (It was also when the MOT/IVA/SVA thing was a lot easier.)

Like one of the posters above, I thought you had to be very well-connected in Dubai just to be allowed to register a RHD car there. FWIW, I drove a RHD R33 Skyline GT-R there for 3 days but only on temporary export plates.

We sell right hand drive brand new high powered petrol/RS models to a guy that has them in the UK for 6 months, then exports to Dubai. Buys 6 or 6 at a time, all massively specced. The last 6 he bought were 6 Q7 3.0 TFSi petrols, all with £1000s of pound of options

TBH I though Dubai was RHD?!

If it's genuine, that is of course a good deal, however it's seems too cheap...

I'm thinking the same. A LandCruiser in the UAE would be about double that (albeit with LHD), a LHD Lexus might possibly be as much as £50k (circa 300k AED)

Nope, LHD. Not completely unusual to have somebody driving using the left hand lane instead of the right over there though. That's probably why 90% of roads are dual carriageway.

It'll need to pass the IVA test :-
