I'd agree. If we limit the "ever" to these couple of decades. The Prius is genuinely different, in the drive department. The Prius PSD is as different to an "automatic" as the first CVT was to the normal manual gearbox, if you get what I mean.

The rest of the car though is not that different. Four wheels, boot, seats, doors etc.
