To be fair Vlad, even very PH cars are uncool on here - such as anything fast with 4 doors and a boot as opposed to the estate version and even MX5s.

The Prius is undeniably very good at what it's meant to do. It's no different to a Land Rover in that respect and they are perfectly respectable within their intended usage.

My view with these hybrids is they do not seem to any more efficient than a good diesel engine. In fact they are worse as small modern diesels will pull 70mpg on the motorway.

Great concept if you want to go green but the initial outlay against a good diesel is not worth it.

I wouldn't want to own a modern diesel at high milage either. I'd rather risk my luck with batteries than a modern common rail turbocharged diesel with dual mass flywheel and a plethora of emissions controls. They are also horribly dirty things pollution wise, which actually does matter in cities if you have a shred of social responsibility.

I almost got wiped out by on as a pedestrian in Stavanger, Norway last year. I was crossing the road, there was a Prius taxi parked up about 20 yards away, total silence. I looked and saw he was stationary so looked to the other direction, nothing coming so started to cross the road, in the meantime the Noggie taxi had pulled off, totally silent still, before I knew it I was nearly on the bonnet!!

Bloody dangerous things, ban them all.

modern diesels are crap unless you are buying a big old car (exec saloon, SUV) and don't want the fuel bills of a big V6/V8 petrol.

In 4 pot form in a hatchback or saloon they pants.
