I just paid £139/corner (I think) for 245/40R18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports online.

What sizes of tyre are you looking for where mid-range tyres exceed that?
Bargain! Where from?

My fronts are wearing rather fast on my BM. Same type. Uh oh...
Here you go smile

Same here. I'll be gutted if i'm paying more than that.

Son was quoted circa £200 a corner for his BMW though and wifie pays £260 ish a corner on her z4.

Happened to someone I know - £180 a corner or something on her diesel hatchback, and then she got a nail through it (that wasn't repairable) 50 miles later. She was not best pleased.

The same thing happened to me a week later. But with 215/55 R16s on the daily, I wasn't so upset at £75 a corner and was smiling quite smugly when I realised that the manufacturer of the mid-rangers I fitted (Nexen) offer a lifetime warranty on damage - so the replacement tyre was free.

Since I buy at the "shed" end of the market, the smallest wheels available on whatever car I'm buying are an absolute must.

My mondeo has had 18s since 2007... So quite a while. Just I never owned it back then hence the shock.

Agreed. A 1980's countach was running on 15inch wheels....why in 2014 does a family hatchback "need" 19inch wheels.

No wonder people opt for budget, even though it's potentially false economy, when mid range stuff can be £120 to £150 per corner... Had me looking at the cheapies as well. Maybe two premium on the back and two budgets up front is ok?
Doesn't sound like a good idea, I'd rather have decent part-worn tyres all round.
Isn't that false economy, seeing as they won't last as long as a brand new set of tyres? You may as well splash out more and less often for the good stuff in the first place.

I use blackcircles.com for all my tyre purchases. Club card points and the local fitting centre are pretty good.

I put four new tyres on my CTR in Feb. 225/40/R18s for £86 a corner with Kumho tyres. Pretty happy with that. I put budget brands on my Saab for £55 a corner and they were 225/45/R17s. Bargain smile

Wet Grip: E

Seriously - someone would actually *choose* those for road use?

Prices certainly seemed to have hardened over the past few months, back in January I was looking at £130 a corner but I've just paid £150 this past week. My local who is usually good for a 10-15% discount if you have two couldn't budge on the continentals I was after (245/35/18)

215/45/R16 on a small hatchback - used to cry whenever one needed replacing.

Mytyres now sell Vreds for <£100 though which isn't too bad.

£400 for a set of 888's on my car is fairly reasonable I thought. The joys of running small wheels!

I have to admit I do find it very amusing when I am at the tyre place and someone turns up in a flash 4x4 with wheels the size of dustbin lids and then finds out it will cost them north of £250 a corner for new tyres.

Mine has 18" wheels but they are needed to cover the huge brakes because of the huge engine it has..
