I'm still intrigued as to why Vauxhall entertained this and replaced her car with a better one? Just good PR?
It encourages the mouth breathers to do no research, blame everyone else and end up with a TV show negotiating you a better deal which in my mind is terribly counter productive.

When I were a lad all cars slowed down on hills forcing you to change down. We were grateful when we could finally afford a car that could maintain a steady 70-80mph on the motorway and deliriously happy if you could maintain a conversation at the same time!!
My first car was a 55bhp VW Lupo. On the stretch of M1 from Nottingham to Leicester, it was a good day if I didn't have to lift on the big hill from Loughborough as it meant I could keep my hard earned 70mph in 5th. If some tit in a BMW swung out without indicating and required me to lift, even for a second, it was a steady 60mph flat out in 4th at 4000rpm.When I were a lad all cars slowed down on hills forcing you to change down. Actually I think that they'd get better audience figures if there was the possibility that the complainers occasionally got told "it's your own stupid fault you idiots". Some element of jeopardy would make it more interesting!
You might have something there.But, from a production perspective I wonder if the consumers would stop asking the show to help or would have certain legal protection from the show making them look like dicks.
Todays one is even better, woman buys a warranty with a three piece suite which has since been totally trashed by two fat labradors and was utterly filthy, i mean seriously minging, my pride alone wouldnt allow anyone to see it! But not the bottom feeders... And of course warranty wont pay out... 
The house I bought is now too small for all my stuff- i want a mansion now please.
I know not everyone is a petrolhead, but before putting down a substantial amount of money, a bit of background reading is required, surely?

They thought they had test driven a similar car which may have had the same engine, it appears nobody can tell for sure, so they did do a bit of research (about as much research as people who don't care much about cars tend to do). It's just one of those things really, I don't think it's my place to call anybody stupid, etc.

I'm in two minds having watched the whole thing last night (at a quick glance yesterday I thought the car must be faulty but now I don't think that's the case).Sweeping generalisation, but most women can't just jump in and drive different cars. She probably had a "round-the-block" test drive and put any iffyness down to her unfamiliarity with the car.
Really, if the car is as crap as it seems (and I noted yesterday that even the Vx Comms guy more or less said that) then the salesman should have made sure they were happy with its shortcomings.

Pah! You were lucky lad. My first Polo didn't even have a fifth gear - we used to dream of a fifth gear etc etc (it didn't though - 895cc 4 speed - motorways were foot to the boards and indicated 60-85 depending on terrain)

I don't think anybody was really blaming the salesperson. She thought there was a fault with the car, her mechanics all said it was s
t, Vauxhall said all 1.0 Corsa's are pretty much st. I think Vauxhall did the swap to keep a customer that had bought loads of cars in the past happy and they did it pretty much off their own backs (although having the whole thing on TV would obviously be an influence). Like I said, it's just one of those things...

Vauxhall gave them the new car simply just to STFU (nice PR for them on national TV).

Let's face it, a great number (if not a majority) of the general public are frankly as thick as pig excrement. In recent times this stupidity has increasingly been pandered to, rather than scorned and punished (you can't criticise anyone for doing anything stupid any more, it's always the fault of something else don't you know?).
Now it appears that low IQ and lazy thinking is being actively celebrated and rewarded.

I agree with that. And people know they're thick, so they go to "the experts" - the manufacturer's franchised dealership.Part of the value add of buying a car from a franchised dealership, rather than over the internet, is that the salesman would obviously use his skill and expertise to make sure that the car is suitable and acceptable.
In this case they didn't, hence leaving BSM with nowhere to go.

If (IF) he took them out in a test drive in the 1.2 and then told them the 1.0 drives just the same then there might be a case to answer.There are many cars where the difference between engines is only noticed at extremes of acceleration or on mpg of certain journeys.
