Renault still at this??

Does anyone really care how fast a hot hatch laps a road in germany when they driving to Tesco?

Anyone buying any car because a professional driver can throw it round a track at licence losing speeds somewhere on the continent needs their head read.

Do the owners of R26.Rs only use there car to go the supermarket? I doubt it.

I bought my RS Meg 250 because I knew I could use it as an every day drive and still take it on track without suffering from eternal under steer. The Nurburgring time was a big factor for me choosing the Meg.

I think there's a sizable group of people who either only want or are restricted to 1 car and want to do shopping at Tesco and trackdays. I think this sort of lark is to be encouraged; there's alright a lot of choice for people who don't care about driving at 10/10ths so we should pleased that some manufacturers are knocking out stuff for the hardcore. The more driver focused cars the better right?! smile

If this genuinely does turn out to be a ridiculous R26.R style send off I only have one question!

Where do I sign Renault? I'm serious...

#Under8 ... I rated it a "7".

wink

Seriously, I like this Under8 target. There's no reason a sub 8 minute lap matters any more than running a mile in under 4 minutes matters... it's a target but it's a bloody good driver for positive change.

It doesn't make the resulting cars automatically good but it's a good proxy for well sorted cars.

I don't care whether Seat/GM/Renault/Honda get the quickest time. In the end, we all win by having a choice of toys to play with. smile

I currently have an RS250 as my daily driver. I think they are really under rated cars personally. Before the Meg I had a Clio R27 which I absolutely loved to bits. All my work colleagues have continuously taken the pee out of me for driving crap girly French cars, little do they know how much they are missing out on. I rarely see another RS250 on the road, having had mine for 2 years now I can count on 1 hand the number of others I have seen.
I am not a Renault fan despite being French but I couldn't agree with you more. The best £12k/£13k one can spend on a perf car atm is a RS250 Cup. I was still hanging to my anti-Renault prejudice last year when I opted for the BMW but there are times when I kick myself really, notably next month where I have to rent a Swift as I know I will cook my brakes and/or the shoulders of my Supersports...

Apparently they're very reliable too.

Mine fits plenty of Asda shopping in the boot, will also do under 1:50 laps around Cadwell ALL day long and will happily go very sideways without too much aggressive provocation. It'll sit on a motorway and do well into the 30's mpg wise as well (34ish usually).

Fast but pretty easy to live with too, just a bit on the heavy side imo.

I've put the date in my calendar, depending on the spec I might make one my shopping car replacement smile

Hope this for real and turns out to be a car that can actually be bought, and not Renault playing fantasy trumps with that Cupra. What a waste of time that was.

I'm expecting a 7.50 follow by an explanation from Renault that they used Seat's rules.

I imagine you could get loads of shopping in an r26r.

Can you tax one as a van?

Under 8 mins hasn't officially been done and its the target that all the new hot hatches seem to be aiming for.

Also leaves a bit of speculation, how much under 8?

If they has #under7:53 then it also gives another figure for all the competitors to start aiming for

Renault were always going to come back with something..they have held the record for years and always been at the forefront of hot hatches.
