Lease pickup - refurb cost?
Discussion
Need a new pickup for work, tempted by the the lease deals on a new Navara.
Familiar with the charade on handing back lease cars over scuffed bumpers and grazed alloys, am I looking at the same thing with a pickup?
It will be used by our staff rather than abused (hopefully), but it is a pickup to do pickup type things, not treated with kid gloves.
I can see a 2 year contract at circa £200pcm resulting in a refurb cost of a couple of £k.... Thus less compelling....
What's fair wear and tear, or do most users just wince at the end of the lease?

One scratch, one fking scratch and they'll fking skin you alive. We're getting charged for scuffed plastic wheelarches on works vans. It's a new way of getting cash for the lease companies and they love it. Up here all the "removadent" brigade are offering off-lease repair packages. Just ask them to provide a copy of their wear and tear policy, then you'll have it in black and white before you commit to anything.
This !!! Personally I wouldn't, the residual value of a pick up is good regardless of condition within reason but you will most likely be charged for wear and tear on a contract hire, I bought my truck lease purchase with a lump sum at the end to keep the monthly payments down . its up to me to either sell or pay the balloon and keep it at the end...Personally I wouldn't go for a lease on this sort of thing.
It leaves too much of an unknown cost at the end.
I'd be looking at a bank loan for the full amount, then I could decide when to sell it, or whether to keep it.
There's no point in saving £2k now by leasing if it will cost you £4k to hand it back.

The Fair Wear and Tear levels for LCVs are very different to those for cars. LCVs are expected to be workhorses and to reflect this at the end of lease. The BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) guidelines for both cars and LCVs are available at the bottom of this page, and are the standards followed by any reputable lease company: http://www.lexautolease.co.uk/drivers

Bloke I know used to have his own garage/van rental company, when he enquired about Merc Sprinter vans they had to be returned in `as new` condition according to the terms of the lease. More chance of platting snot than rental vans being like new after 3 years.HTH

Pfft.3 hours more like.
20 odd years ago the builders merchant I worked at on the weekends got a brand new Ford P100 "Californian" pick up. The boss collected it Saturday morning, at lunchtime I decided to take it to deliver some wooden fence posts to a customer. I get to the customers place and he must have had about 60' of grass outside his house. I reversed it up onto the grass a bit quick, ripped the rear mud guards off, put the brakes on and then slid into the customers new fence putting a huge crease down the tailgate and smashing a back light.
How I didn't get sacked is beyond me
