So you are saying that in an auto you would knock it out of drive and pull the hand brake on?
Yup. Whenever i drive an automatic I do exactly that at night once there is someone stopped behind me. Just common courtesy, IMO.

The X350 uses the same control module as my car. If the gearbox is in Drive, Reverse or any of the J-Gate hold points and the park brake is engaged, you simply press the accelerator to drive away and the control module immediately releases the park brake. If in Park or Neutral it doesn't.
That's true, and it's also how I wore out the rear pads very quickly before finding out how to release the brake properly.

I'd add people who sit on the foot brake in queues of traffic at night when there's someone stopped behind them to the list. It completely destroys the night vision of the driver behind you, not to mention being thoroughly unpleasant.
errrm - they are probably in an automatic
So automatics don't have hand-brakes these days?
So you are saying that in an auto you would knock it out of drive and pull the hand brake on?

REALLY......i don't think so
Well apparently you don't need to take it out of drive.
The problem I have is the annoying Riverdance-like move I would have to make to swap feet on the brake pedal while I put on the foot operated "hand" brake; AKA PARKING brake.

All to protect kambites sniper-vision (TM).

Somewhere between fat and no.

Defcon 5 - Death. We can call it justice for attempted murder.
Defcon 5 would be peace and love!

Personally I think there should be Robocop-like individuals with anti-materiel rifles stationed on motorway bridges. Break the law a mile away, your engine is demolished by a supersonic lump of depleted Uranium after another half-mile.

Shanty towns of bad drivers would form by the edges of the roads roughly half a mile from traffic law enforcement bridges, using bits of car as building materials.

You don't need to, leave it in Drive and apply the hand/parking brake - all autos are engineered with this in mind.

Well if you do it to me, you'll get my full-beam headlights in your mirror for the time we're stopped if there's nothing coming the other way to dazzle. hehe

Oh dear,here we go.

People joining dual carriageways who think they have a right to barge into lane 1.

Tier7.
Is this deliberate 'bait'?

1/10 for making me reply.

Strange - I've had mine for 5 years and 60k and am part-way through my second set of pads. Anyhoo...

People who don't indicate right when going further round a roundabout than straight on ,people who drive like they are the only car on the road ,any selfish driving like blocking lanes junctions and driving too slowly for the conditions or other traffic..
Just ban them..

Does that work with electric parking brakes also?

The trouble is, I know you have a lovely Lotus.
So your lights will be dazzling my tyres or mud-guards while my brake lights are probably shooting right over your head (XC90)! wink

It's entirely possible that my pad wear was caused by one of my X350s other numerous faults :-)

Worked fine with the electric brake on my X350 Jag over 40K miles and ex OH's Disco 3 with electric brake.

As I've recently started doing a lot more driving, I'm noticing people drifting into my lane whilst looking out the window and pointing, or looking down.. at a map perhaps?

Its mainly committed by the elderly, and luckily seems to happen in residential area's mostly. Presumably they are lost and looking for their destination, but seemingly lock their arms and either drift into oncoming traffic, or as i witnessed the other day, up the kerb.

I haven't seen any accidents as of this, but I came close the other day in an industrial estate.

Ban?

People who don't indicate when coming off a roundabout.

The indicator stalk is literally inches away from your hand, how lazy are you that you can't even raise your finger to let people know where you are going.

That the the 40mph EVERYWHERE brigade, commonly found in KIA's and Honda Jazz'.

hehe True. The last car I really had a problem with was a new XJ; they seem to have incredibly bright brake lights at just the wrong height, I found it genuinely painful when I first pulled up behind it and had spots dancing in front of my eyes for the next few minutes after it finally moved.

I couldn't say defcon 1 when we'd done tiers 1,2,3 and 4 though. biggrin
I like the idea but not any law, speeding is acceptable in the right conditions.

We'd have to work on definitions of laws to allow stuff (taking the apex, speeding, etc) when safe, while clearly defining when it isn't safe (this, however, will be a bit tautological. It's not safe to take the apex in situation x because your engine block will turn to slag).

People who are incapable of talking to their passengers without turning their head sideways to look at them - makes me unnecessarily angry.
