Loved these for a long time. A couple of years back made the effort to go to RS Williams to drive one. Was a perfect example and had the 7.3 litre engine conversion. But it drove like a boat! Wasn't helped by a poor test drive route (didn't really get a chance to extend it nor drive on more challenging roads). Was very disappointed. Still love the looks but if I were scratching the Aston itch I think I would be looking at a DB4 (although of course not in the same price bracket).

OK, so the X-pack is important then, but what does the X-pack comprise??Reminds me of some comedy conversations I heard at work over the years:
"This is important"
"Why?"
"Just is"
"OK"
"Clear?"
"Crystal"
I understand the X-pack refers to upgrading the engine to the same spec as the 'South African' spec before it became known as the X-pack spec.
Also I understand this is the same power as the V8 Vantage Zagato.
Its basically bigger carbs and valves and a change to the timing with a bigger airbox.
Power in the standard V8 Vantage was c370-390bhp. The X-Pack had 432bhp.

"The X-pack or more correctly 580X is distinguished by larger 16 inch diameter wheels and the a version of the V8 engine effectively taken from the Zagato."taken from www.astonmartins.com
Mostly, but there were some wrinkles -- like does it have the large airbox and the big air pipes? The big bore exhaust headers? Rear silencers? And the 50mm bored out webers? etc
Standard xbox was probably around 400bhp. xbox with the above is probably around 432bhp. But much of this depends on what you call the redline, since there isnt one. Aston says 6k revs, but the engine is safe to beyond 7k with some tweaks. So who knows? (and who cares really? its bloody quick with stunningly good traction from the De Dion rear axle)

There was a feature in one of the classic mags last year about a one-owner V8 Vantage from the late 70s, still going strong today. Anyway, the owner was remembering the words of the selling dealer regarding the optional performance exhaust: "Sir, it will sound like a Ferrari that went to Oxford!"
Super stuff, love these!
