In Wales at the moment, and as they say round these parts "that's lush that is".

I'm sure it wasn't all that long ago these could be had for very little money. When the DB7 V12's bottom out they'll be a cracking investment I should think.

The only thing that's holding me back from buying this are the US market lights in the front and rear wings. How very un-British!

I rented one of these from Bespokes a couple of years ago for the week I got married. Rough condition doesn't even begin to describe it (got some wedge back from them though so all good in the end). The car sold at auction a few months later for about £26k so I think that's a good measure of how bad it was.

It drove like a Transit and didn't feel that fast either although this might be reflective of its condition rather than the car itself.

Took a while to get used to the dog-leg 'box and the fly handbrake too.

What made it for me was the noise though.... the absolute definitive example of a 'loud pedal'!

This vid gives you a good idea what I mean.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it6Hny77PPM

I'm sure I'll be shouted down, but the majority of this era AM seem to have been rebuilt as they have the propensity to be as rotten as a July plum.
And anyone who deludes them selves that POA may be around £100 is, well, deluded.
Try double that, and with low miles, X pack and last registered? I'm sure a canny dealer will add on oh, at least 10% on top...
The day of these being £100k have long gone unfortunately, so I'll have to wait for the Euro Millions people to ring me up.......

TKH what an awesome car and a stunning colour.

My father had a V8 in the early 70s, I remember sitting on the bonnet as a kid.

When funds allow, I'd take a POW spec volante...

That's still the car I think of whenever someone mentions the V8 Vantage. Probably the first purchase on my lottery win list (although I might get a modern V12 Vantage to tide me over while I'm searching for a good one...)

So. Much. Want.

Is the author aware that the other cars for sale he referenced are not Vantages never mind x-packs...

I would think closer to £150-200k these days.
Eric

Try £265k

And the guy that says these are terrifying to drive must have driven a dog

They are sensational to drive even by modern standards, very fast too.

Mine was my school boy dream car and when I'm eventually skint it'll be the last car to leave me.

In fairness, they are a howling dog to drive if not in tip top condition. Soggy suspension bushes, knackered dampers, out of balance carbs. And that applies to most of the really shiny garage queens out there, unfortunately. Low mileage and depth of expensive wax polish is *no* guide to how well it will drive. Quite the reverse, often.

The article states that these cars were hard to sell. I will try to keep it short. In 1987 I had bought PBM 744W a vantage, ex Victor Gauntlett for 28,500 from HWM at Walton on Thames. The car was a pup and I almost lost the faith. My Father had been a mechanic at the factory, I had the bug but I was 33 before I bought a DB6 for the princely sum of 3,250 ! JMR 968E.Anyway,I had a few V8s before PBM. but now I was stumped. The salesman at HWM one Simon Godfrey convinced me I could afford a new one and that a two year wait would pass quickly. So I parted with my 10k and waited. I had wanted a Vantage, Chichester Blue magnolia piped blue, blue top roll,I dont remember when they said I couldnt have the fixed head, but a Volante I could. Aston couldnt build the V8 after 2000 due to the unleaded fuel directive which resulted in the hastily conceived Pup the Virage. Anyway my car was scheduled for late 89 build. You will all know that 3 months was the time it took to build. And that the time it took to build the bonnet, 3 pieces, was the same time it took to build an allegro start to finish. Michael Fleming, the guy that put together the Green collection, offered me 50k for my deposit. a few months later 100k.
HWM offered me 100k and a Virage for my Volante. Top offer was 400k and I still said no. Nothing will ever take the smile off my face when I collected her from Newport Pagnell !!These were heady times and they are back.If my dear old Dad had worked at Fords he would have saved me a fortune... Fast forward to 91 and with the help of the Gulf war and Lord Brockett the market collapsed.

I disagree with your first paragraph. I'm "only" 38 years old but these late 70's/80's Vantages are the ultimate "man's" car and my first Aston choice. If only I could afford one... frown .

With the possible exception of the 288 GTO this has to be (IMHO of course) the most beautiful car ever produced.
Wanted one for as long as I can remember.
Hopefully I can put an offer in on Sunday, numbers permitting...
Totally agree. I'll go halves with you if it helps with the finances.

I have a 87 V8 Vantage X Pack and a Vantage V550, the X Pack looks and feels more special. It has a royal look to it, commanding presence however compared to the Vantage V550 it feels like a lorry heavy and very old school. The Vantage V550 is nice but it doesn't hold a candle next to the X Pack looks department, however the 550 feels extremely fast for a 20 year old car.
