That is like asking, "a pretty girl is what". The anorak answer could be 12507 to 12701 but you have to understand that these cars are not like a focus ST, each is individual and unique, as were all Astons of that era.

here goes a minefield of info rather than me typing it all out from a great resource

http://astonmartins.com/car-category/amv8/

but as previously said all are pretty unique but all equally awesome biggest changes were around 1978 with into of 'Oscar India' or ( October Introduction) when they got wood dash etc and then 1980 saw the V580 engine introduced.

but in all honesty whichever one you choose you wont be disappointed but as Johnny says they benefit from being set up correctly and more importantly getting regular excercise

I must be due for rubber seals to go then at 27000 miles and never been done.

Oh.....Well at least it looks like I could get my money back if I sold it.

I disagree with your first paragraph. I'm "only" 38 years old but these late 70's/80's Vantages are the ultimate "man's" car and my first Aston choice. If only I could afford one... frown .

Jeff
Agreed. I'm 31 and I've wanted a 1980s Vantage these ever since I can remember.

A few years ago it looked like I might come into a bit of money and I seriously thought about buying a Virage (which was about £20k at the time). Sadly it never happened and I believe they're about twice that now.

Some insider info. The standard spec cars are ok to drive, but not very good really.
ok, so what you meant when you shouted down the guy who said they are terrifying to drive, is that they drive well AFTER you have upgraded the engine, the brakes, the suspension, the wheels and the tires with third party components?

I initially didn't see the hype with these, but after getting to know a few of them at Le Mans, and seeing how they go, and as stated, handle when looked after, I think they are worth every penny.

The looks have always been impressive but I think even more so now compared to modern cars, they have the Aston prestige but are brutes, its like finding out Prince Charles has a gang land tattoo between his dimples of venus!

High up on the want list.

I do mean this one !! I never fell out of love with it really. Overheating issues is all. I had the same mag. I also owned a Vantage E789 EPB Manual. Chichester Blue, on the front cover August 1st 1987 but I dont recall what magazine, mine since lost.Nothing will ever compare to one of these.

You mean this one - I was 16 y/o at the time this magazine came out and I still remember buying the CAR magazine that day. This remains bed-side reading to date.

Same Vantage, PBM 744W was in the Bonham's Aston sale in 2013 where it made £98,940.

You can tell I still have a place for it in my heart!

The design of these baffles me. It's like they took an original Ford Mustang fastback, changed a few bits and called it an Aston Martin.

It's a lovely looking car, but it's more akin to a direct copy than an homage to the American design. How did they avoid the lawsuits? De Tomaso got into trouble trying something similar.

Always loved these, had the opportunity to buy one in the mid 90s but bottled out and bought a 5-year-old BMW 318i for much the same money... not the first Aston I missed out on either, I bottled out of a ratty rotbox of a DB5 in the early 80s as well. Could have had either for chicken feed, restored 'em, run'em both for a while and sold 'em on for a massive profit... used to be you couldn't give away Triumph Stags, S1-S3 XJ6s and Rover P5s, too, but look what's happened to those...

Read what I said. They drive well when they are to new factory spec. These are 25 years old at least, going up to 37. Just because they are shiny and low mileage does not make them to new spec in terms of suspension, engine tune etc. Its a supercar, not a ford mondeo - the difference between "on-song" and "out of tune" is huge.

A little forgotten?! Is Matt Bird on crack? This without doubt the first model I think of when I hear V8 Vantage and is without doubt my favourite Aston.

This was my favourite car in one of the James Bond films. I remember rockets firing out of the grill.
