RE: £100K Garage: Create your dream fleet
Discussion
I've spent about 8hrs doing this and here's my list, I reckon I'll need another £100k to store/maintain/run the whole lot
So I'll start from A:
Alfa Romeo 156 GTA Estate with a Q2 diff £6,550:
Nothing says awesome better than a bellowing, bright and brash Italian estate car! This is dog transport at its best, with the power and handling to help smear your retriever all over the rear screen plus the sound to drown out its protestations, WOOF!
Audi Quattro £20,995:
Fire up the Quattro! This is it, the original Vorsprung Durch Technik and a wonderful expression of the 80's. With half a chance who amongst you wouldn't go for one of these! I suddenly feel like hiding a half of whisky in my top drawer just looking at it.
BMW E21 323i £6,495:
I'll be honest here, this is deeply personal. My old man had three of these and growing up on stories of them has just made me want one like crazy! So why not indulge in some old school, sideways, saloon action!
Citroen AX GT £3,995:
Well you know what they say, light weight and modest power makes for exploitable fun! Nothing quite gets as close to this as a Citroen AX GT. Tiny weight, reasonable power, no safety, more fun! What's stopping you?!
Ford Focus RS MK1 £9,500:
A modern classic, the performance Ford that showed they'd grown up, but not too much! Torque steer abounds but the chassis shines, what a gem to have in the collection!
Honda Integra Type R (UKDM) £2,995:
The definitive front drive chassis, the engine that launched a thousand fanboys, the best regarded car on PH. There are many superlatives that can be leveled at one of Hondas' best efforts. The fact is that only the mad would honestly turn down one of these in their garage.
Lancia Delta Integrale £16,000:
We've got a Quattro, but what's a rally hero without an equally heroic antagonist? 4wd with flair? your damn straight! They're both straight lined sharp dressers, but you can't help but feel the Lancia was hiding a set of suspenders and stockings under its 'sober' styling. Which is best? well I'd look forward to spending the time finding out!
MG Midget MK2 1098 £6450:
A British classic for those sunny days! Who doesn't want a lithe, charming, BRG champion of yesteryear? With little power but plenty of charm. Time is most certainly relative when you're bombing along, wind in the hair, in this little beastie!
Mercedes G Wagen 230 SWB Manual £9,450:
When the going gets tough, the tough jump in a G Wagen and piss all over it. Ignore Mercedes' class problem, these will forever be Wagens. I live in the Highlands and winter, latest excluded, it's a pain in the differentials. What's needed is a rough tough do it all machine and that's what this is. Dog friendly and great fun!
Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 £2,250:
Okay, there's been plenty of front drivers but I still think there's space for more. Hatches are awesome and the mostdeadly brilliant is regarded as the Peugeot 205. I reckon a wee rearwardly mobile town car is all that's needed for quick fun!
Porsche 928S Manual £7,995:
Flip up headlights, country crushing abilities, speed. The best of everything, this car is the most able of all and the most 70's. Truly it would be a joy to just clean it, let alone drive it down to the riviera and show up the nouveau riche.
Clio Williams 1995 £3,750:
Similar to the 205 but different in its finesse yet at the time this was the most ridiculous hot hatch of its time. Developed with the Williams F1 team, a 2.0 engine was shoehorned into a tiny engine bay, yet the handling was addictive and brilliant. The R26 of its day.
Volvo 240 GLT Saloon £1,095:
Bricks just don't come better than this! Clean, tidy and ever so slightly imposing this 240 is all of the above. It is here, because, for a spit over a grand why wouldn't you? Classless in the most perfect way and probably the car that would last forever.
Jaguar Sovereign V12 £2,500:
The car you would want to climb into after a hard days firing people, the leather that will sooth your conscience and the engine that will glide you on towards a more savoury business situation. This car will attract attention. Mainly for its calm smooth look and classless appeal. If you step out of the drivers seat you will always be greeted warmly. plus y'know V12 and all that!
If I were to get £100k then I reckon that I would stick to this list, I'm surprised that I've actually come up with a definitive list, hope you all enjoy!

1986 BMW E30 M3 convertible (easy one, this) £20k
1986 BMW M6 (sharknose one!) £20k
1987 Lancia Delta Intergrale EVO II £25k
Porsche 928 S4 (but I'd settle for an S2 or S3)£15k
Audi A6 Avant 4.0TDi £15k
1990 Honda CRX V-TECH, must be an un-modded, original so I'm prepared to pay £5k (I've had three CRX's and one V-TECH)
I've done a little 'man-maths' above to get the CRX in!!
I've never even DRIVEN a BMW, let alone own one but I like the classics. I test drove a 928S in the '90's but didn't buy it. I was in my '20's!
To be honest, I could spunk the lot on an Audi R8!
And if I can get the above cheaper then there would be a Ducati 916 or 996 in there as well.

I've had a bit more time to rethink my list and here is what I would have:
1) Porsche 928 S4 - gunmetal grey. I saw this in the magazine ads when it was new and the image has stuck with me ever since. £10k buys a good one.
2) Bentley Turbo R - call it £15k for a good 'un and it's a nice way to commute to clients.
3) Dodge Viper GTS - Blue with white stripes. The new Cobra Daytona? I don't know, but it scratches my muscle car itch and my "scary fast adrenalin pump" itch at the same time - £35k
4) Nissan Figaro - my wife wants one in ways I can never understand, but it's a pretty little thing to have around - £5k
5) Ferrari 355. Because it is everything you ever wanted in a Ferrari and it sounds like a choir of angels with a Tubi fitted - £35-40k
I'm not counting the Range Rover P38 4.6 HSE that we have and which is part of the family - that will never leave us until I can no longer fix it. Or the Jag S Type Diesel we have as a runabout...
Yeah, I could live with that lot.
