By Des, I mean 'Designated Driver'. Des is the guy that gets pints of diet coke or lime and soda bought for him in every round without having to contribute as he's getting his mates back in one piece, and without the taxi charge...

I do around 40k miles a year, get frustrated by the usual middle lane morons, those that speed up when you pull out to overtake when you're on cruise control, and those that do 60 when overtaking then speed up to 80 when they have an opportunity to pull in and let you overtake.

In the last few weeks I've been 'Des' a couple of times and between 10pm and 3/4am on a Friday/Saturday night Saturday/Sunday morning I've noticed a lot more weird driving antics.

I honestly think drink driving is a much larger problem than we realise.

Or maybe being a PHer I judge them too harshly?

They are probably:

a) tired
b) crap drivers
c) drink driving
d) drug driving
e) chatting and not concentrating

Be alert, be decisive, (and if you have a moderately powerful car) be gone and away.

I travel at night frequently. On the motorway you will see a car weaving in its lane, with a glowing light coming from inside the car.
When you get closer it goes dark in the car.
When you pull in front and look in your rear mirror, the drivers face is lit up again by some kind of light.

Texting whilst driving is rife.
Pretty sure that's aliens.

Yep. I often watch movies while driving at night.
So it could aliens, or Weekend at Bernies.

But there's never a police car there when needed.

I honestly think if I was tasked with pulling over drink drivers I'd catch 10+ each weekend.

I consider reporting them, but if I did then I'd never be off the phone on a Friday and Saturday night.

Resurrecting an old thread. Tonight I've spent a couple of hours in the car between 11pm and 1am.

Either the worst drivers come out at night or majority are driving back rat-arsed after kicking out.

Had a match tonight, picked up a few of the team, did a few drop offs on the way back, followed a number of cars that were driving in a manner you just don't see at any time other than kicking out time on a Friday and Saturday night.

Where are the patrol cars to pick them up?

In the pub.
