One of my friends' is about to get engaged. His fiancee is Australian and is due to resettle here prior to getting married. She currently has a car out in Oz but has only had insurance for the past 6 months as prior to that she was living/working in LA for 4 years.

My mate is currently running around in an 08 320 diesel but will taking delivery of a new RRS in September. He currently pays @ £400 for his BMW.

He wants to get his future wife insured on the BMW. He has been quoted around £2500 (!!!) to add her onto his BMW. Lord only knows how much it will be to put her on the RRS.

She is 35 years old, a low risk occupation (Company sales director) and has been driving off and on for the past 15 years.

Is it just a case of him having to bite the, financial, bullet and stumping up over £2k or does anyone know of a company that might take on a new driver all be it with 15 years driving experience.

Any guidance appreciated (apart from saying we don't want ANOTHER Ozzie here!)

Try re-doing a quote with her having a UK licence. It may bring the quote down considerabbly.

If it does, make sure that she gets a UK licence ASAP after arriving in the UK.

Buy a shed for the odd trip to the tip and get her insured on it fully comprehensive as main driver yes it will be expensive but say the car is worth £50 even if you paid £500 for it.

As a result of this she will be third party on the BMW. In a couple of years maybe 6 months ask to add her to your policy?
