Fair enough, I know some people see the yoko and think it's going to be a cut slick tyre, you obviously know your onions, or tyres at least wink
I think it's sort of half way between a standard block tyre and a cut slick in terms of how it behaves. The water dispersion characteristics are far better than they have any right to be, looking at the tread pattern; absolutely horrific tyre on snow, though. hehe

. . . . . Michelin Pilot Super Sports . . . . . . . . BUY THEM. No better road tyre in my opinion . . . .
^^^ This, just this. Cease all further investigations and prevarications, just go buy them - they are utterly brilliant. Expensive but brilliant.
Pretty sure supersports start in 18s. It's what I'll be putting on my mini GP once I have worn the runflats out. Fantastic tyre.

On my previous clio 200 (similar type of car) I had the continental sport contact 3, which have now been superseded by the 5. I would recommend them for a good all round tyre.

Also look at Yokohama AD08. They're rated as B in the wet (A being the best), but are utterly tremendous in the dry
Michelin PSS come in 17s, 88Y load index in the OP's 205/45 size.

I have driven on many brands of recent tyres including Bridgestones and Conti's. They are all good tyres but I always replaced them with, my then, favourite Michelin PS2. Having tried the PS3 I'm not convinced it is any better. However, the PSS is notably better in nearly all criteria - dry grip, wet grip, turn in, resistance to tramlining, noise and comfort. Michelin also say they will last longer - I'll have to wait some time to confirm if that is true!

Regarding Conti's (in Sport Contact 3 guise) - good grip, wet and dry, but noisy and tramlined too much.

Regarding Bridgestones (in Potenza RE050 guise) - good grip, wet and dry, but noisy and got noisier as they wore. In RFT variant (which I currently have on the Z4) the grip drops off alarmingly at temperatures below ~7C even in the dry with the TC flashing like mad on acceleration in 2nd/3rd gear and increasing my drifting ability no end.

Other mid range tyres I have sampled have all been competent but until you sample the delights of the PSS you probably don't realise what you're missing, although I must admit that I have not driven on the latest offerings from Goodyear.

To be fair the PS3 was a misnomer as it was never meant to replace the PS2, which the PSS does.

The PS3 is a high performance tyre for reasonably powerful family type cars. The PSS is a very high performance tyre for supersaloons and sports cars.

My new set of Super Sports are sat in the garage waiting to be fitted. I'm looking forward to it!

Exactly this. The PS3 replaced the Pilot Exalto 2, which was the "lesser" brother of the Pilot Sport.

Because French.
