90 saved in West Yorkshire and no Cat C or D. Don't know if that is because it is majority traders or if saved adverts don't show. Checking now...

Using my usual search criteria of max £5k petrol estates and 4x4 within 10 miles (covers Leeds, Wakefield and most of Bradford, but not Keighley!) I have found 4 Cat C & 2 Cat D within 30 miles of Leeds. 1 CAT D and 2 CAT D declared, and 1 CAT D sold (declared). =50% declared.

I suspect I would have found many more if I was considering diesels.

Well played Autotrader!

Does anyone here have access or a subscription to unlimited/free HPI checks? Would be good if a few of the suspect cars (i.e. those flagged as cat-c/d, but not mentioned in adverts) are really cat-c or d.

I'm just wondering how accurate Autotrader is? Especially in those adverts where the dealer is stating that all cars are HPI clear!

Exactly, it's a £500 Corsa, it would be classified a Cat D if it lost a hub cap!

I'll say it again, if there is evidence of the damage that occured and how it was rectified then I don't see the huge problem so long as it is price.

I'd also imagine that the majority of people who currently own Cat C/D cars may not be aware nor care and just expect a new owner to be the same. This applies more and more as the value of the car declines.

What do you guys make of this?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Seller admits it was cat C, and the price is much cheaper than others. However autotrader hasn't listed it as such?

Great, no more scrolling to the very bottom of an ad to find a "cat d".

That is very interesting as had been looking at this car only the other day: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Ended up not pursuing as got a bad vibe from the seller. Person who brought it must be kicking themselves as there is a likelihood they would not have known..

Firstly, sellers have a legal requirement to disclose Cat C/D.

Secondly are there really people out there who don't independently check the history of a car before buying it? Are people still that lazy/daft?

Many buyers are unsophisticated and believe the salesmen Particularly in car purchases. Buyers often feel intimidated and ask as few questions as possible. Many salesmen benefit from this weakness. Anything that warns the buyers about potential defects must be good. The majority of PH followers do not need such assistance. But many buyers with no experience or knowledge do need that assistance. Which is why this is a singularly good thing.

Don't think they do, only if asked
