Looks stunning to me, as far as 4x4s go.

Seven or eight years ago everyone was saying that most cars now looked the same as each other and that there was very little real choice.

Now even BMW alone offers a wide range of choice.

And that's the point. Choice. No one gets forced to buy an X6. Choice.

What a load of codswallop.

I can only assume that you have never driven a X6. I sold my DB9 because I preferred driving the X6. It is still too fast to legally exploit the power, can keep up with most cars through the wiggly bits and is as comfortable as any car I have owned excluding the 7 series.

The fact I can chuck a dog in the boot or a bale of hay if required, don't have to worry about flooded roads too much and can also return 33mpg means that to me it combines the best traits of a 4x4, coupe and 4 door car.
But the X5 would have been just as fast, just as competent in the wiggly bits, been able to carry two bales of hay or two dogs, ford just as deep, cost less, and not look like something heavy had sat on it?

Exactly. Its not like you can't but any other BMW's, I bet if CH said he liked the X4 and thought it was going to be or is a great car, majority of people on here would change their minds and agree because CH said so rolleyes

Corvette Stingray is a great car. If they did it in RHD, would buy one like a shot.

Camaro Z28 is epic - us mags have found it as fast as a 991 turbo and GTR on the track but also more engaging / fun... A GT3 would likely slowly walk away as the Z28 is a heavy thing at the end of the day, but as a last bastion of analogue - maybe we need to look stateside. (Note these same review contrast this to the fact the base Camaro is pretty bad on the track)

X4 / X6 debate - get over it, they look great to some people and are choice where there didn't used to be any. If we used logic for cars then we'd all be driving crapboxes. Merc is joining the party now also so you'll have to get used to them!

X4 >>> X6. I know that the X6 is older but its just awful looking. In the last month, there was a bloke in an X6M who ran one of those dodgy secondhand luxury car dealerships, overtake another car on the shoulder in a weird attempt to teach me a lesson for indicating, smoothly moving in front of said X6 and then accelerating away, and an X6 driven by a woman, who, judging from her driving behaviour, accidentally ran a red light though there was stopped traffic. Unreal. Not to judge a car by its drivers, but these two examples of driving were the most egregious I'd seen in a long time.

And I'm about 5"11, and the back of an X6 is hardly comfortable in terms of space.

Some interesting stuff on show. I find it ever harder to care about the latest versions of huge, heavy £40k plus cars though, I am most excited about the upcoming Renault Twingo and the Mk4 MX5.

The hate for the X4 (and X6) is because anyone who knows anything about cars can see they are utterly pointless. They combine all the worst traits of 4x4s, coupes and 4 door cars for absolutely no advantage whatsoever. The result (compared to a conventional saloon/hatch/estate) is heavy, poor handling, slow, thirsty, cramped and a visual abomination. They offer no benefits at all over other models except some bizarre fashion/status symbol value which invariably means the drivers of them are people one should strive to avoid.
What a load of codswallop.

you didnt mention the looks wink
I'm part of a family that loves Porsche, and years ago we had a Cayenne V8 for the weekend to test drive.

It was great for many things, it was very competent. But ultimately everyone said the same thing at the end of the weekend: Wouldn't a performance estate car do everything better, be cheaper and be way better looking? As much as I liked the Cayenne, it was incredibly ugly and because it was a 4x4, everything was compromised (compared to a perfomance estate).

The family ended up with an RS4 Avant in the end, which despite some quality issues was better in every measurable and immeasurable respect.

"Alfa 4C customers in North America should thank their lucky stars: the silly headlights have been dropped for them."

I think the silly hl don't look that bad at all, although it did took some time. And besides they have a function, there 10kg lighter.

"I saw a new Ghibli in traffic and it occurred to me that if I lived here, despite knowing how much better the Germans were"

So the Germans are better ??
The 5 series probably, but the A6 and E class with all their numbness....
Besides styling is part of the equasion to when it comes to being "premium". And then I don't mean Xerox styling.....

A chinese copy of what?

Looks great to me, smaller than the X6 with the same styling. Should be a great seller against the Evoque.
Yes it is horrible looking car, but worst part is that it IS HORRIBLE car. It's not enjoyable to drive, it's not roomy nor comfy or beautiful and it's hilariously expensive car to own. That's the problem me think.

I saw a Ghibli at the local Maser dealer - it's really nothing to write home about and is an insult to the Ghibli name.
