You need to define your criteria a bit more clearly.

Running costs?
Age?
Doors?
Seats?
Hard/soft top?
FWD/RWD/4WD
what so you mean by fast? Lap times? Straight line?

Caterham
Evo
Impreza
M3
M5
Various AMG things
Supra
350Z
Maser 3200
BM 645
Various yank metal

4 huge comfortable seats, lots of reliable power, fantastic brakes (a weak spot on these) and rarity to boot thumbup

Shame your age limit is 2003.

Might as well suggest this, seeing as I'm here, and I'll wait for the haters to pipe up:

Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo.

They go up to 2001 (My dad recently sold a 2003 'lost in a warehouse before being registered' one)

220bhp FWD standard - You'll pick a minter up for £4k

If you've got someone in the know, the other £6k will put enough mods on it to make it a reliable 400bhp.

My Dad's is currently running 482bhp and has a 1/4mile time over half a second quicker than a Ferrari 355 (fnar fnar etc)

Problem is, finding a good'un.

Can you push that budget up to circa £15k? If so I would seriously consider the 370Z as a GT tourer if I were you.

Alternatively a 987 Boxster S or the M3.

If you don't care for fuel consumption an Impreza P1 is a good shout.

Fairly fast. 2+2. Suits tall drivers. In budget. Expensive to run but appreciating in value.

Do you need 4 seats? If not then how about a Z4 M-Roadster? They're awesome fun for the money and punch well above their weight, whilst also feeling quite special to get in and drive. You get the fantastic S54 engine and they're very reliable.

I think this is going to depend on how you feel about running costs.

As a fellow R32 Mk5 owner (now chasing jobs that the previous owner couldn't afford), I know that these aren't always cheap cars to run - but it's not in the league of an ageing Boxster, M3 etc.

e46 m3 is top of the list but just unsure about the subframe issues
Cracked subframe used to worry me when I first bought mine, it can be sorted for just over a grand these days at places like Redish Etc.

Failing that, look on M3Cutters for a nice one which has already had it done.

I had similar criteria to you for my recent purchase...went with an '05 E46 M3 in the end. Lots of tales of woe regarding the subframe/axle carrier issue, however later (late 04 & 05) are less prone as I understand it as there was a revision to the axle carrier to minimise the issue in late builds.

In any case, worth getting an inspection pre-purchase or look at one that has already had remedial work (redish motorsport kit) or the repair done.

M3cutters is a fantastic site & forum for finding out more and anything else to look at.

Had mine for just over a month now and absolutely loving it...

Was going to suggest a turbo conversion for the Golf as an alternative but christ on a bike they're expensive!

http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/product/3746/ts-55... 550bhp though tongue out

I just read this thread this is what worries me. I don't know that much about them either..s2000 is a squeeze as i am so tall and 300zx is to old
Well try one out for size, I don't think 6'5" is going to be that bad in an S2000. If your head touches the roof, put the roof down smile
Or get a Boxster. Later ones aren't particularly bork, someone with better knowledge will explain the bit about liners I'm sure.
That Cerb is definitely a good option too, if you're brave. Be brave, go on smile

By all means, if you want something rubbish and boring, that's up to you..
I think your making excuses with your height, you want something soft and practical really don't you? Maybe a nice Mondeo diesel? Or are you large in other directions too?
