Just spotted this (I've been on the beer for a few weeks and have probably missed quite a bit)
Anyway, if you're still around Paul, good luck for the future.
If you've already left, good riddance *

We'll welcome the new guy and give him the benefit of the doubt when he arrives.
After a few days of that we will no doubt rib him without mercy and bemoan how PH has become a corporate we, full of useless adverts and meaningless corporate tie-ins (actually, thats been going on for a while). Nevertheless, we still come back.

* that was a joke obviously :-)

When will it be safe to rummage through his desk draws and locker to see what goodies remain?

So...

Just a quick update. My last day here full time is this Friday smile

I will be around here and there throughout July though, popping in from time to time to sort a few bits and bobs, but largely I'll be at home taking some time off ahead of the new role starting on 4th August.

I'll still be around though, it's true that you can never actually leave

If you're expecting cake, think again. I scoffed it all weeks ago.

Just go. If you must. A clean break. Leave and Never come back.

If you don't care enough to be full time, we don't want you, when you can be bothered to give us attention.

You have succeeded in making PH a welcoming place to enjoy internet forums and banter. Which cannot have been easy in a commercial environment. You will definitely be missed as this forum confirms. Good luck in your activities.

I tend to spend most of my time on PH buried in certain corners of PH and somehow missed this news. Best of luck with the new venture Paul, from a PHer with a frighteningly similar taste in cars! smile

Steffan, as one of my favourite posters (and one I can identify within a sentence!) you are exactly right here.

The transition from enthusiast site to a commercial business cannot have been easy, but for the vast majority of us (I hope) Pistonheads still represents a valuable community.

I purchased 3 cars on advice from the barge thread, got invaluable skincare advice, and have made some new friends in Garlick's custodianship.

So long as he buys another old Mercedes (with no equipment at all, in white) then I wish him the best when he moves on.

I thank you for those very kind words, Da. I particularly enjoyed the comments on being able to identify the author of the prose which I can well understand. Garlick is off to pastures new and I am sure we all wish him every success. Doubtless he will achieve that aim. Business and progress therein is a very odd game indeed as we all know and personalities move on and new faces arrive.

I think PH is here to stay but as the rate of change in every business nowadays accelerates through the illumination provided by greater and greater technological changes PH must be subject to changes as the media and markets change. There must be changes in the fundamentals of the businesses to accommodate that significant and continuous rate of change.

In years gone by things could and did roll on steadily from year to year. Nowadays there is every chance that the fundamentals of a business are totally reworked because of changes in the competitors approach and new technological processes leaving no choice but to change.

As the mobile phone barons have shown in recent years a fall from best placed firm to non runner is all too easy, and can be so swift and devastating that every business and every individual therein must come to expect changes every year and be alive to the consequences of those changes.

Thirty years ago PH could not be. Now it is a big business. Remarkable achievement and much of that achievement is down to Garlick. He will most certainly be missed. I am sure we all wish him the very best of luck which I have no doubt he will create for himself with his own inimitable style.
