Probably would've bought the Cat D for £3k, but not a rebuilt one.

Cat D on something like that wouldn't necessarily put me off, but there is no bargepole long enough for me to even consider that example.

Just, simply, "no".

How do you know it was 'only' cat D? VCAR covers all write-offs doesn't it? The ad is not specific.

Those Tridents on the headrests and between the rear seats are a bit bling.

I looked at the after pictures first.

Looked at the bonnet gap on the drivers side, thought it looked a bit tight in one corner so thought that if it was a drivers side front impact that it could have been repaired better.

Clicked the before pictures, bingo!

Wouldn't touch that one had I the necessary funds but I'm not put off by a properly repaired cat d or c especially if I can see the before pics and not pick up the damage on the after!

Poor repair IMO

That would need to be cheap, cheap, cheap.

And I'd want to have evidence that it had been properly repaired (maybe even jigged).

That bonnet looks to be in a different county to the rest of the car.

Shonky.

That's good of you! Do you seriously think the salvage sold for 3k?

I think he is saying what he would pay for it, not what it's market worth.

Yep- that's what i should've said (the £3k mentioned in the OP).

I know a lot of people say a Cat D is good value IF it's just body panels and maybe a couple of new parts, but that car was a long way away from a bottle of T-Cut fix

Some cars look good in white. That car is not one of them. Black or a dark red or that lovely metallic blue they do personally. Seems expensive for a CAT D as well?

If it was cheap enough I'd buy it, break it down into parts and sell them. That engine, gearbox, interior trim, calipers, lights, doors etc might be worth a pretty penny.

Parts alone would be worth so much more than that

Is that a veiled racial slur?

I know this car personally...seen it for years. No idea it was a Cat D. Owner is a good guy and polite enough, as is the owner of SSC. Don't know them on a personal level but they are decent enough, straight up, hard working blokes.

Sorry but am I missing the trick here as I'm rather discombobulated as to why buying cars from this firm and others mentioned that are around the Midlands / North area are a no no?

I would have thought these sort of high-end Cat C/D's would make perfect sense for the exotic hire car businesses where they will only be thrapped along in a wedding convoy. Auction them off at the end of their 2 - 3 year hire term.

That's a fantastic idea.
