RE: Porsche Cayman GTS: Review

Porsche is just white goods bought by either the lobotomised, ill informed or fanatics. Helped along by biased reviews from the press. Notice how they don't ever recommend a different car at the end of any Porsche reviews mmmmmm wonder why?
Its the equivalent of sitting in a grey room, with grey furniture, in a grey house on a grey cloudy day.
What a load of drivel, I take it you've never driven a Cayman? Its the equivalent of sitting in a grey room, with grey furniture, in a grey house on a grey cloudy day.

I wasn't aware so much drivel could be contained in so few sentences. Its the equivalent of sitting in a grey room, with grey furniture, in a grey house on a grey cloudy day.

Bravo.
The GTS looks business as usual for Porsche & as usual looks good value over the S.
I'd like Porsche to make a 967 CS style model - less kit, less weight for less money and better to drive - but I don't think that is in their plan.
Will early Caymans ever fall to the kind of price early Boxsters are (£4-6K) or remain stronger?

The new Cayman remains foul looking outside but hugely improved inside compared to the previous car. But if only for the steering I'd put up with the miserable, plastic austerity of the Cayman R's interior. I'd still want to weep tears of despair every time I used those insulting fabric door pulls.
At least with the GTS they are no longer paying their highly skilled engineers to detune a perfectly good 3.4 litre flat six! But electric steering just makes it redundant for me as a sports car, for as long as alternatives with hydraulic or no power assistance exist anyway.

Hopefully they'll remain strong :-)I'd like Porsche to make a 967 CS style model - less kit, less weight for less money and better to drive - but I don't think that is in their plan.

I think the fact that the Boxster totally outsells the Cayman should keep residuals a little higher

Does anyone know if Porsche have any plans to make the 911 GT3's steering available in other 911s, Caymans & Boxsters? Is that possible, and if so is there any reason why they shouldn't do it other than marketing-led tripe requiring it as a differentiating factor for the GT3?

OK, taking this in turn:Edited by rocketride on Friday 9th May 12:15
- Lobotomised; not really likely that anyone on here has a lobotomy. I imagine the DVLA suspend licenses for that kind of thing.
- Ill Informed; I really want to know what secret you know. Please, inform us better. Why is buying a Porsche only the action of the stupid? No tales of engine issues please - they're well documented, and everyone is perfectly well informed about them.
- Fanatics. Again, how many people on here have had a Porsche or two, or three, amongst a plethora of other sports cars? Lots and lots and lots, thats how many.
I really want to know as well what sports car you would have in stead of this. What sports car that is ~50k, manual, sharp to drive, has a nice level of luxury, compact, and reliable? I'm sure you'll suggest M3 (not compact, or really a sports car, more a performance car), 4C (not normal levels of luxury), Exige (same), F-Type (Auto only)? What else?
And just to clarify: I don't have one of these, nor one on order, nor could I afford one.

Whats the quote, the lady doth protest too much? Maybe he really wants one but can't get one so spouts this rubbish to make himself feel better?- Lobotomised; not really likely that anyone on here has a lobotomy. I imagine the DVLA suspend licenses for that kind of thing.

Lovely car this.
Seems relative good 'value' in Porsche terms also. Not all that long ago the 997 'S' was 380 bhp and c.£80k new. The 996 C4S was mid £70k also and 325 bhp. 340 bhp for your £55k seems a steal, and whilst I still like the new 991, the new Cayman is a lovely looking thing.
A friend of mine has a Cayman S riding on 20s and looks and feels very special inside and out...

I'd hugely rather have a manual 997 GT3RS over a 991 GT3 for the same reason. Is that possible, and if so is there any reason why they shouldn't do it other than marketing-led tripe requiring it as a differentiating factor for the GT3?
I honesly have no idea why anyone would want a 991 GT3, and that's before all the spontaneous combustion. Makes no sense to me at all.
Better in London traffic maybe?
I have a friend who considers it to be the 'ultimate car for the wife'.
But seriously, the gushing from the motoring press continues unabated of course (Harris fawning over the Panamera Diesel was the final straw for me) but Porsche are really losing their way. There does seem to be a groundswell of opinion against them on here that was notably absent two years ago.
Where have all the really focused drivers cars gone?!
Even the 918 Spider has electric steering and despite the fantastic shape and styling details, its looking like a 3 legged eco donkey in the hypercar arms race. The P1 has a clear focus - to use whatever tech is available to go as fast as possible. La Ferrari appears to have been constructed solely for the purpose of thrilling and delighting human beings. The 918 though, of course insanely fast and impressive in isolation, seems to be some kind of eco science project.

You could easily afford a 911 if you can afford this, that statement is just so clichéd and for people that need to stop listening to Jeremy Clarkson.
Not optioned up you can't. I have a Cayman GTS on order, exactly how I want it (including the another 10mm lower X73 Sport Suspension over PASM). Going to a Carrera 2S would increase my cost another 35%. A 4S would increase my cost another 40%. The only 911 that's "just as affordable" is a *completely stripped* base Carrera.Lot of Porsche haters today, must be Friday...
Strange how other marques of the VW Group don't attract quite as much stick despite being niche filling cash generating average products in extremis - I do exclude Skoda from this however.
Were the haters out in such force for the Macan when that was launched??
It's a very British thing to bash the successful and accomplished, so don't let me stop you!
