RE: BMW M3 and M4: Review
Discussion
I have two kids and they fit fine in my 1M so i don't see these, as nice as they are, as a convincing argument to change. Electric steering makes even more less appealing. I know i am lucky being happy but if you were in the market for one of these why would you buy one over the 1M that is almost depreciation proof? No doubt these will take a big hit in the first 2 as there will be loads of them before you know it..

An E39 M5 is no less subtle than an F10 M5! it has no side "vents" like the F10, the front splitter is also the same minus the T-bar and, like the F10, has no fog lights. I would say the F10 is more more subtle than the E39 or E60 to be honest....the E28 and E34 being the most subtle.
Either way, I view that as a good thing. Subtle enough that most don't bat an eyelid, those in the know still know what it is....just how it should be.
Oh - and you can't get F10 M5 wheels on a normal 5.
e39 has front fogs. I knew there were those differences but they don't tend to catch the eye like totally different wheels or mirrors. Quad exhausts used to stand out a lot more too.Either way, I view that as a good thing. Subtle enough that most don't bat an eyelid, those in the know still know what it is....just how it should be.

Totally different to any M Sport F10 on the road without any doubt.

I'll reserve judgement till I hear one ..... But the 1M seems to sound a lot better.I'm sure they'll bring out some sort of performance exhaust for them - either BMWPE or Akrapovic.
I'm sure the M3 will be quicker ....but if I had 50k I'd go for a secondhand 1M as I prefer the looks

Erm, excuse my ignorance (perhaps) but this seems a bit of a daft comment.I reckon you'd buy a new one of these over a 1M because you can't buy a new 1M.....or am I missing something?
There are 400 (or was it 450?) 1Ms in the UK, far from all of those are for sale and they sell a LOT more than 450 M3s in the UK. I can see your point from YOUR point of view, in which case you should have worded it "if I were in the market..." rather than "if you were in the market...", no?

I'd buy one over an 1M because despite the flares it still looks like a motorised hat to me. Caviar said:
Is it me or does that engine sound as if there is a little pipe sneaking its way from the plenium intake chamber to the interior for some audio slavery? It will be a hit this one.
No pipe from plenum, it's easier than that, there's synthesized sounds played into cabin via cars audio system, same as M5/6.........E30M3SE said:

I was in a old '61 Lancia and managed to overtake it by accelerating until the valves bounced and then freewheeled downhill Saab-96 style in what may or may not have been a speed limited zone.
Beautiful, beautiful car. Color suits it very well.

I'm sure, HoHoHo, you'll agree with that?

I had a 997 without PSE prior to my M5 and also a 335i (on a 61 plate) and to be honest the M5 makes no less noise than either windows down and driving around.
I'm not really sure what some owners/posters are after, the F10 M5 without doubt has sufficient noise within the cabin without becoming annoying and I understand from friends it sound bloody awesome from the outside, especially when in M2 which opens the butterfly valves on the end of the pipes. That is also very noticeable within the cabin, be it piped or real.
I do open my window to listen when I can (especially through tunnels) but let's face it, those who own a £150k fezza do the same and there engine noise isn't piped as far as I know!
