Well, yes, it was a bit tongue in cheek however it's quite clear to me that it's hardly so popular because it looks so damn good.
The people who buy white cars do it because it's all the rage. And it's all the rage because clever media and marketing people tell them it is. I do think it has a lot to do with trying to emulate the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and they - by function of mostly living in hot climates - tend to drive white cars.
It's a it like saying, poor people only buy grey because they're more intersted in the resale value than anything else. The people who buy white cars do it because it's all the rage. I got mine in white because it was either that or black unless I wanted to spend either £650 or £1300 for a different colour. Dealer said the free black looked awful compared to the £650 black so white it was. Same with the wheels: 17in as standard (and a much comfier ride than the 18in with rubber band tyres on my last car) or £800-2000 for different ones.
If you spec up those 'extras' on top of the ones you really do want you find you've soon added quite a few grand to your original price, so for that reason I saved myself two grand to spend on something else and went for the base colour and base wheels. As it happens, whilst a different colour and wheels would have been nice, it's looking fine as it is.

It certainly suits some cars over others but then which colour doesn't?
It's weird, I thought I have been buying white cars because I liked the look of them not to impress people I don't know or because some marketing department decided to work their voodoo magic on me haha… Some people really do talk some nonsense.
Got a pending order for a 235 in mineral white to make a bit of a change

It's cause where all sheep remember it's the same reason we all must own our own house in the uk or the world will simply end. It's what someone we know did so we must do the same.
White cars are no diffrent from any other colour big cars don't suit bright red, yellow doesn't suit a BMW X5.

A Welshman who thinks all people are sheep. White cars are no diffrent from any other colour big cars don't suit bright red, yellow doesn't suit a BMW X5.
Can't see any judge falling for that one

It depends on the car, the curves the angles etc. And the mass appeal at the time, everyone drives black - white is cool, red is in fashion - blue is where its at.
Not just the car. I think that NSX is horrid in white, looks like an unfinished kit car as does the 360. mp3manager said:
I'll just leave this here.
That NXS is a perfect example, yet I don't think the 360CS suits it (page 1).Like the Porsches though.

ahhh. Clown shoe. What a horrible look. Colour fine though. Some cars suit white some black some red etc....but people get fixated on the colour rather than how it looks on the car (how the design wears it if you like)
Personally I think white can hide the details of a car flattening the arches and curves so I wouldn't choose it, but I concede that on some cars e92 M3 for example it can look great especially the mineral white.
I also loved the pearl white they did on the ur Quattro IIRC.
For years I had a strong dislike for white cars...boring colour, then last year I was looking for a new daily driver and bought a bloody white one but it's Pearl White and looks very nice indeed.
So am I converted...no I still can't stand the sight of all the bloody white cars around.

I don't really have an issue with white cars. I think in most cases it's a boring easy choice taken by people following the trend. However, the choice of colour people in the UK make are in general very dull. We live in a country with limited sun, yet everyone buys white/grey/silver/black cars. It's not exactly helping in brightening the place up and giving some colour. We need more colour out there. Go on, be vaguely adventurous!
A modern car in white is, 9 times out of 10, driven by a bell end. It's a choice made because it's fashionable.
It's all very attention seeking and, for me, so very un-British. Does make me laugh when i see an aforementioned bell end in his white Audi A5 driving through a miserable, rainy surburb though. You don't live in LA, pal!
