Talking of residuals, its interesting how Plod shunned the ubiquitous white fleet vehicles in favour of even more ubiquitous silver around 2007 just as white became fashionable again and residually one of the best colours as silver replaced white as one of the weakest.....hehe

It is. (Santorin Blau)
Unfortunately only a diesel one, but an Alpina never-the-less.

It would've looked great sat next to my orange Lotus!

All white cars are st.
To prove this in the flimsiest way possible with not only anecdotal, but self-sourced evidence, here is a picture of a car similar to the only white vehicle I have owned. (except mine didn't have the exciting red stripe on the bash plastic)

I didn't even pay for it. I swapped it for a motorbike with seized brakes.

The motorbike was less of a death trap.
And the bike didn't lean as much round corners.

Its not the colour that is sh*te it is the car itself, To say `all' whits cars are sh*te is exactly the same as saying all red/black/green/ silver/blue/etc etc coloure cars are sh*te. i.e. nonsense.
For my sins I had one of these, and it was possibly the worst car I ever had, it had nothing whatsoever going for it NOTHING!
It was load of c*ck, designed when Ford let the bean counters decide what they should make, rather than anyone who thought that perhaps Ford should make decent cars for their customers.
It represented a true low point in Fords line up of vehicles. It was so bad if I had to turn up at customers offices for a meeting, I would park round the corner, and walk in, rather than be see driving it into their car park. It represented an appalling company image for both my company, and Ford IMO.
the car would sh*te in ANY colour you might care to mention.

Over here white cars work really well as they help the inside of the car stay cooler, my wife has a black fiesta and I have a white everest, the difference in getting into one then the other is really noticeable, will never have a dark car anywhere hot and sunny. They also seem to hide the dust well, until it rains then you get dirty streaks. Not sure about large cars in white though, an s class or a 7 series would look like you used it for weddings?

Isn't that just a really good looking car that still looks good in spite of being in white, though? There's a lot of colours I'd rather mine was than white, that's for sure

o.k i know the trend is for white cars, but i see a new white car, black alloys and just think, why did you do it, it looks st.

We just seem to be left with white, grey, battleship grey and light grey cars. is it because accountants all drive them?
On some cars the colour choice is limited. Replacing my blue/black car with a colour that looked different was very restrictive (see chart). Sorry to say I went with white. I think the car looks good in white but I would have preferred a vibrant blue or a red. I will leave the wheels silver if that helps smile

I take it that's a BMW. A lot of manufacturers, like Volkswagen and Vauxhall, have seen the trend for white and started charging a premium for solid white paint.

There is a reason why white has become popular, it really is the main colour to become quite good looking on certain cars aside from the usual boring black, silver, blue and grey.

White was a nice change and surprisingly is the best colour on quite a few cars.

What I don't understand is when people buy white on base spec cars and think they look like a top specced M Sport (just an example!) - its not the same thing at all. This is why you get the impression they look crap or are not nice.

For example I had a BMW F10 M Sport with the 19 alloys, factory tinted windows. In this spec hands down alpine white is the best colour by a long margin. Silver makes the car look old, carbon black I feel is a disgusting colour (black with blue tint in the light), Saphiree black is nice but very rare and blue is disgusting too.

What else is there?

There has been a few pics of the new shape SLK AMG Sport - Once again white suits it best but other colours look great.

Strangly enough I find that white is not the best colour for the F10 M5 - strange as it sounds it doesnt suit the rear end at all. Black is much more suited to it or the wacky colour blues and orange.

Car colours generally seemed to be just a fad, with at one point in time, Black cars being the in thing, (with manufacturers asking for a premium where a black car was ordered) then it was silver with almost every other car on the road being this colour. Now it seems white is the `in' colour
with over 22% of all new registrations (Circa 550.000 new cars) being ordered in this colour.
Having had cars in all three of the above colours (as well as many others) I would go for white again, (especially compared to black) because it seems to stay looking clean for longer, doesn't get so hot when parked outside in the summer, seems to be more `visible' to other road users, especially when alongside, compared to dark colours, and frankly some, but not all cars do seem to look better in white IMHO.

Hark back to 2010 and people on here were calling it "recession white". That was like 5 years ago and its still as popular so it cant really be called a fad.

White has its place just like any other colour....its good in the summer but worse to keep clean than black! I like it on the right car.

At one time white was the colour you had if you couldn't afford metallic paint. You'd rarely see a high spec car in white, just the cheapest cars in the most basic spec. Hence why some people have a prejudice against it still.

Totally agree with OP. White looks o.k on classic Etype Stag MG ( However old English white has a lot of yellow and black in the mix) with black contrasting roof and chrome. The whole black wheels looks like the wheel trims have fallen off. White is for vans and commercial vehicles and motorsport as sign writing / sticker stand out that is why we write on white paperwork. Its a fashion which I don't get, however sheep tend be white and they tend to follow. I would rather take the black sheep approach be different and think for myself...One thing is for sure eveybody is doing it because its fashionable that the best reason to not to

First key to white just being a fashion decisions is because its so popular on Audi's and VW etc who apart from a few sporty models make dull cars, expensive and not reliable but do have the best marketing dept..leading to many sheep....followers...white.

I also predict that white will fall out of fashion very soon ( the German marking dept will start another fashion with brochure and Ads of all there cars being featured in one colour so everybody will have trade up to be in the cool gang ) it be like black cars in the 70's...very few...however I don't see Russet Brown making a come back from that era...or vynol roofs.

Except the white one in the later film was blown up and replaced by a maroon one with gold wheels.

If you live in Turkmenistan you have to have a white car by law now as that's what the president prefers. It's also apparently because white paint is least likely to be damaged by the hot, sunny climate causing cars to look untidy.

I like most cars in white, provided they do not have any decals on them. This particularly applies to the 911 Carrera and the Esprit.
