i just dont get white cars
Discussion
I personally cringe a little every time I see a white car in poverty spec. Especially in Audi/BMW/Merc guise. Although, they don't look as bad as white vauxhalls. They look fking ghastly.
Having said that, I have a black car and it's really annoying how dirty it gets and how quickly it gets that dirty. Had my car washed yesterday and it looks like I have done some off-roading in it today!

Not a road car per se but it competed in the Targa Florio- Chaparral 2F. No car ever looked better in white. Imagine that beast bellowing around Sicily in 1967 , ducking around little Fiat Abarths. If you haven't heard of the Chaparral have a google- an extraordinary dynasty of cars from Texas
I know this thread is about white cars but noticed two comments of black cars and have to agree.
Owned three black cars, but a new 309gti was a nightmare to keep clean, after cleaning with an hour dust particles all over it and stone chips on the front was a complete joke, after about 10k it looked like someone had sprayed it white at the front end. The black 127 sport I had never suffered as bad and an Isuzu Mu7 that I had in Thailand pretty much was always dirty because of the terrain I drove so just never noticed.
My current TVR also suffers with the stone chips syndrome but always tell myself it's nowhere near as bad as what that black 309 suffered.
Never noticed a single stone chip on my white 944... Maybe I was just lucky or the fact that white hides stone chips very well.

I never thought much of white cars myself actually, but I now own one and have softened towards the colour a little. The colour wasn't what I chose it for though - it came up as the best spec for the lowest mileage and price I could find and was an excellent deal. If anything, the fact it was white put me off a little.
However I went to see it and in the flesh, it did look very smart, so I forgot any reservations. I do still think it looks good, although I think I might prefer it even more in another colour. Keeping it clean is a bit of a pain, and for most of winter it just looked brown. Also, things like tar spots stand out like a sore thumb after washing which is pretty annoying.
My girlfriend likes white cars and I kept moaning on the way to go and view it that I would of preferred it in blue, so she was a bit smug when I turned out to think it really suited the car.
Get a clear wrap for that if you're going to keep it a whileHowever I went to see it and in the flesh, it did look very smart, so I forgot any reservations. Well, yes, it was a bit tongue in cheek however it's quite clear to me that it's hardly so popular because it looks so damn good.
The people who buy white cars do it because it's all the rage. And it's all the rage because clever media and marketing people tell them it is. I do think it has a lot to do with trying to emulate the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and they - by function of mostly living in hot climates - tend to drive white cars.
To me, white is a colour that is very much dependent on setting. A white car with blacked out windows pulling out of a ridiculously gated compound in Johannesburg looks the bees knees, because it's in its natural habitat. A fairytooth metallic pearlste white 518d with blacked out windows and glossy black 16" standard wheels bombing it down the A13 just past Tilbury on a rainy and grey Essex afternoon looks a bit sad and hideously out of place. The blonde bint or angry rep behind the wheel will think otherwise of course, and I suppose that's fair enough. But it's definitely not my cup of tea.

The only car I've seen on these pages that I'd want in white is the Championship White NSX with the matching white alloys, I quite like rally/racing cars in white with decals too. The worst offenders are German cars, in particular the Audi's. White S-Lines/black editions with the poverrty spec diesel engines, yuck.

I saw a car transporter loaded with new Land rovers. They were either white or black. Very boring colours. Why is nobody ordering other colours?
Things are never just black and white in life.I'm surprised people are seeing red over this issue and generally feeling blue
