I used to go through them every day at 80-90mph. I've never had a ticket.

However, a family member did get a ticket at 81mph recently - so I guess it could vary?

Whenever I do the speed limit through those cameras, it almost feels like I'm the slowest vehicle on the road.

A "family member" huh? Pics of the ticket with the details or it didn't happen.

Everyone "knows someone" who has had a ticket from them without any temporarily limit being displayed, yet no-one has ever posted any proof. It's bull st. I know from personal experience - ie. not some 2nd or 3rd hand information - that they can be driven past at 1.0 leptons without any comeback if there is no temporary limit displayed. They DO also flash randomly for no apparent reason when no temporary limit is set which is rather disconcerting if you happen to going under one at the time, but nothing ever comes of it so they must be faulty.

Please feel free to do continue doing 69.9mph under them because you "know someone" who got nailed, just make sure you leave the outside lane free for me, thanks. spin

And if they were NOT active when no temp limit was in force you think the plod and HA would inform of us of such? Please don't be so naive/stupid (delete as appropriate).

Theres a average cam section over one the M60 that catches an average of over 450 a month- but that was published in the papers.
The M62 in W Yorks is not an "average cam" area, so your point is what, exactly?

When I'm in one of these sections I will generally set cruise to 70, and relax. It's not a major problem. If the cameras are there then the probability is that they will be on. If people want to go faster, that's fine - they might or might not get caught, but that's their choice.I'll stay in lane 1 or 2 depending on HGV density.

I see them flashing when the matrix signs are off quite reqularly; I actually Facebooked the Smart M62 Motorway page about it - their response is in another thread.

I just stick the cruise on 80 when the gantry signs are off, and I've not had any bother.

I know two people so far (recentyl) who have been done for speeding on the average speed check on M62....... the yellow gantry hanging cameras........ i.e over the 5/10 mile stretch, whatever distance it is

and on a linked subject, people have also been done being in bus lanes at wrong times, cameras have got them too.

To be fair, the legal limit IS 70 mph, so you cant really get irate with someone doing 70 mph, particulrly in lane 1 and/or 2 of a 3 lane carrigeway. Of course, if someone is doing 69.9 mph and you wanted to do 70 mph exactly I'd understand your frustration and being held up...

Anywho, they have cameras on the M25 that I see flash quite often...are these linked to the variable speed limit? I.e. if its flashing 60 mph dont be going any faster, likewise if 50, 40, 30...

I got flashed through there whilst the ATM was off a couple of months ago at an indicated 95 leptons....late at night of course. Gave me the fright of my life!

Nothing ever came of it although even if It did I reckon it would be easy enough to get let off. Theres quite strict rules about fixed site cameras and one of them is theres supposed to be a sign indicating the speed limit within eyeshot of an operational camera. If the ATM is off no sign is displayed....bring it on!

Not true I'm afraid. The signage detailed in the guidelines is just that - a guideline. It would have no bearing on a prosecution for speeding, as hundreds of convicted speeders on the PePiPoo forums have found out.

Unfortunately, the gantry cams do operate when there's no temp limit displayed - however the reason you can get away with it is the limit is usually set above 80mph - and most car speedos are 3-7mph out. So you could go through at 85 (depending on the camera in question) - no ticket.

For advice on this sort of thing it's best to go to PePiPoo forums - there's not only a lot of knowledge there but a lot of experience too - from both sides.

Can you quote a source for these rules? Not being funny, genuinely curious.

Just an update- I received no NIP etc.
Good news. I'm still going to be sticking somewhere near the limit though.
