Any reference to speed and the love of usually results in criticism from some corners of PH, sometimes with threats to forward said posts to the police. Considering that any reference to driving being fun is banned from advertising and the site's huge recent growth it's no surprise that 'speed matters' would be deemed inappropriate and therefore removed.

T'is a shame as this should be the home of petrol-loving speed-freaks.

Maybe I'll go and polish my fast car instead of taking it out for a drive. ;D

This plus the proliferation of adverts certainly signals the beginning of the end. It's a shame but all good things come to an end. It appears Haymarket are going to slowly kill the site.

I will await the official response for the removal of the Speed Matters tagline, it's going to be very hard to portray this as anything other than kowtowing to PC element. I've never seen anyone threatened with reporting to doing big speeds on PH, but I can quite imagine it happens.

Pre PH my main forum was Snet, it went downhill, loads left and I found PH, feels strangely similar

Speeding and adverts for insurance companies are not happy bedfellows.

Luckily, most PHers are grown up enough to realise that speeding on the roads is stupid anyway.

Most appreciate that speed does not necessarily equal speeding.

Yup, the desire to avoid anything which might be controversial. Appeasment of idiots, basically.

As an aside, I've just done 1,500 miles in the UK in my French registered car. No matter how hard I tried, not one radar flashed, from Portsmouth to Mersea island, from Norfolk to the Derbyshire Dales, from Caernarvon to Bridgnorth and from Nuneaton to Portsmouth again. I think I managed a commendation note in an average speed area - if even those work - but not once did I get flashed, and as for the stories of the police in Wales, we saw but one police car and despite radar warning signs everywhere there are few cameras, and they didn't go off either. Happy days!

However some remember when the site had a levity to it (and far fewer adverts and pop-ups) and wearing a Pistonheads T-Shirt with "School of Speed" or "Speed matters" was amusing. Forgive me for picking on your post but there's a gulf of difference between an amusing tag line and condoning reckless driving. Your remark about speeding really goes unsaid.

You are quite right, and I am aware of the distinction, but advertisers will be wary of this tag-line, and there is a boy-racer element who won't get it either.
