RE: BMW M235i M Performance

I'm really surprised at BMW's styling route for these cars. I saw one the other day with all it's graphics and stripes, and while it's a quick car it's not an M car let one a super car, just didn't appeal at all kind of a mix of halfords and max power. I thought it was all about subtlety and discression.
Having a new 330 with only an extra tailpipe to differentiate it from a 4cyl the last thing id want is a load of attention seeking carp around the car shouting look mines a fraction bigger than yours.
Aren't the styling options added extras? The M235i I test drove barely looked different from the 'normal' 2 seriesHaving a new 330 with only an extra tailpipe to differentiate it from a 4cyl the last thing id want is a load of attention seeking carp around the car shouting look mines a fraction bigger than yours.
They are, and very expensive extras at that. That they all have giant "M Performance" badges on them makes things look ridiculous. Our local dealer had a 4 series (or a 2, hard to tell these days!) with lots of said bits stuck all over it and even my 13 year old son, who thins the A45 popping and crackling through the exhaust every 30 seconds is "cool", thought the amount of badges was "stupid". If they just had the M badge, it would be OK, if a bit of a monomer, but having big silver "Performance" badges as well is a step too far. The equivalent of all those Halfrod's "TURBO" badges sold in the 80s, or red "R" badges in the early '00s.

Another case of not reading the posts.....
Rear CF spoiler is OK, as quite discreet, and exhaust sounds great (CF tips are wk though) and the obvious LSD are the only things on that list I'd add.
They can keep the rest of the expensive silly trinkets.

I priced one of these up as my new daily but I just can't get over what it cost. I know it's annoying when every thread descends into a "you could buy a second hand....." price war but 40k is an awful lot of money for one of these.
Is it really though? Seems to me that if you look at the price of its equivalent models from the last 15-20 years, i.e. bigger engine E36/e46 coupe models, or the M135i all cost a fairly similar amount once you adjust for inflation. The E36 328i Sport I used to have came with its original sales receipt, I don't remember the actual figure but it was somewhere round the £32k mark, which if anything, in 1997 represented a more substantial outlay. Anyway, new cars always do seem really expensive for what they are, especially when compared to an outgoing model that still seems reasonably modern. That's why I am quite happy running older cars for a fraction of the outlay. Leon19841 said:
I am awaiting a 235, other than the auto box I ticked 'most' the options you would want and with a healthy discount got it for 34k got the grills and gear shift ready for collection and exhaust will follow shortly. You could add the exhaust and LSD to mine and still be short of 40k.
Try speccing a Cayman S up with nav, premium sound, sports exhaust, etc etc and it is a lot lot more.
Of course it is, it's a Porsche and it is built for a purpose. The 2 series is made for going to the office or to the shops. The Porsche is on a completely different level even in basic form. Try speccing a Cayman S up with nav, premium sound, sports exhaust, etc etc and it is a lot lot more.
Quick question, when you buy the front splitter, rear diffuser & the side skirts, do they come colour coded with the body within the cost? It looks to me like some dealerships are trying to get away without having to colour code them and then charging additional costs to colour code them. Let me know please!

I am seriously considering ordering the M235i but think the back end is a bit bland as standard and would be looking to have the M performance diffuser fitted with possibly the sport exhaust, has anyone had any experience with these being fitted at build or are they purely mods that can be added later?
Ordered the M235i today, being a sunday the parts department guys wernt working and the salesman didnt have access to any info regarding the M performance extras. I definitley want to go for the performace exhaust, diffuser and front splitter but depends on cost. I have seen all the parts for sale at a reasonable price online but would really prefer to have them fitted before i pick the car up from the dealer. Does anyone have any experience with how the dealers charge for the fitting and painting of the extras? I have heard mixed reviews about colour coding being included in the part price but this seems a bit too good to be true.
