RE: BMW M235i M Performance

Does the M235i have different suspension to the M135i? I took out the latter on Friday for a test drive and was pretty disappointed, to be honest, especially after the hype on here. Lovely engine but the damping was mediocre. Far too soft on initial movement followed by lots of bumping and crashing. Is the M235i better?!
Yes.Coupe shell is stiffer than hatch shell and does have different suspension settings as mentioned. I test drove a M235 back in March and the better suspension was one of the only things that impressed me over my E82 135i (as it was new) and the M135.
Alas, there wasn't enough other things to impress about the M235 to make me want to change my E82 135i for one.
But as for people complaining you could spec one for 40k......you could do that with the older E82 135i (and mine 3 years ago listed for a few hundred quid over 40k)
As mentioned in the article, if you want to enjoy driving for the love of god, get the diff.
My M135i is a great everyday car, but somewhat unpredictable to really hang the ass out on the road. You have to upset the car into a sideways moment, unlike a diff'd car which you can control much more on throttle.
If mine wasn't on lease I'd 100% stick a diff in. Luckily I've still got the M3 for the odd hoon.

Why are you trying to 'hang the ass out' on a public road?My M135i is a great everyday car, but somewhat unpredictable to really hang the ass out on the road. You have to upset the car into a sideways moment, unlike a diff'd car which you can control much more on throttle.

Amazingly for a factory option ~2.5k isn't that bad a price for the diff. Can't find prices newer than 2011 (so I assume they've gone up since then) but a Drexler LSD for an E92 is 2142 (retail inc VAT), doesn't mention what currency so I presume Euros, so 1735. An extra ~700 for fitting and warranty etc isn't unreasonable.
Price list at http://www.sportfahrer.at/pdf/drexler-2011.pdf btw.
OTOH IMO it's outrageous that an LSD isn't standard. I mean Mazda were putting one on the RX-8 and that was 22k!

Are you serious? It lists at just over 32k, BMW are doing deals nearer 30k, with tech and/or premium packages you're out the door for mid/high 30's!
Unbelievable value for that performance. This tat is optional and realistically only the LSD is of serious appeal...still sub 40k!!
So it is discounted already, wow, depreciation is going to be horrific.Unbelievable value for that performance. This tat is optional and realistically only the LSD is of serious appeal...still sub 40k!!
Sorry, just realised my mistake, this isn't a thread about Jaguar is it, forget what I said as a BMW it won't depreciate at all.
Especially as it has fake engine noise. Why?

Who, what, where?I just find it strange that thats a main priority for some people, each to their own I suppose, I just hope I'm not coming round the corner the other way when he's got his car 'sideways' ;-)
Once you get used to that in a RWD car, suddenly having an open diff is quite a surprise, and while you can still enjoy them, they're 100% better with the diff. Even without massive yaw angles.
All IMHO.

Haha, I do agree. I just find it strange that thats a main priority for some people, each to their own I suppose, I just hope I'm not coming round the corner the other way when he's got his car 'sideways' ;-)
But when people say 'getting it sideways' I think they use the term to describe the dynamics of the car, being able to feel exactly what it is doing, the way a nicely set up BMW allows you to feel the back end break away in a controlled manor compared with it just letting go.
I don't think anyone would be going round a blind corner with the back end on the other side of the road, well maybe if they are the sort of people who overtake on those corners too, but then they're just an idiot full stop no matter what car they are in.
I'm really surprised at BMW's styling route for these cars. I saw one the other day with all it's graphics and stripes, and while it's a quick car it's not an M car let one a super car, just didn't appeal at all kind of a mix of halfords and max power. I thought it was all about subtlety and discression.
Having a new 330 with only an extra tailpipe to differentiate it from a 4cyl the last thing id want is a load of attention seeking carp around the car shouting look mines a fraction bigger than yours.
