...anyway some PUPP's (Pick Up Point Pricks), no one in sight being picked up with their shopping, car park quite empty, even lots of spaces nearer the door. The prick in the BMW, who has managed to get two wheels in the pick up point preventing anyone else using it, and blocking the road to an extent sitting there having a cancer stick.

I (politely) challenged one of these clowns outside the Sainsbury's near Farnham once. His reply?

"I'm just picking up. It is a pick up point, after all!"

I must have been in the wrong on that one, then. He was on his own, and what he was 'picking up' was a trolley loaded to the gunwales (gunnels) with enough shopping for a family of four for a fortnight, all neatly loaded into 'Bags for Life'. How foolish I felt...

a) for challenging him when he was obviously using the pick up/drop off zone correctly
b) for stupidly parking my own car in a 'parking space' when I also only wanted to "pick up" a week's shopping.

rolleyes Silly me!

That's what's good about the car park at Asda in Farnborough. It's local council run, and patrolled regularly, with tickets issued. So morons tend to do less of their usual 'park in multiple bays in a single car', 'park in a disabled space without a badge' and 'park for an hour in the ten minute pick up spaces' tricks. The bad part is that you have to pay to park.
The cars in the photo are "premium German cars", therefore the owners will have ticked "MSoSE" [Massive Sense of Self Entitlement] on the options list...

The driver was in the car with the engine running and there was someone sat in the back, but that doesn't explain why it was there for a few minutes at least.

Let's await the usual suspects citing 'police purposes' for ignoring every rule of the road.

Christ! that must have caused a huge tailback and associated chaos for those few minutes!

So IMO NOT bad parking.

Silly me didn't know that, so PUPP's, MSoSE and possibly, just possibly a SPORG biggrin bearing in mind where I live, apologies to our local PH's who are exempt I might add.

onder what would have happened if both Disabled bays were full with Disabled badged cars parked in them? Would writer of the Trip Advisor post then complain there were not enough spaces?

People need to get over themselves about marked spaces, If that had been me with my mother I would have simply backed car slightly out of bay, unloaded mother and weelchair then reparked car, honestly, is it that hard? Better still pull up by nearest door or pathway to pub, unload mother then go and park car. If a space is being used does it really matter? The pub has the right to Ban anyone it pleases, if the Landlord 'allegedly' said what he said, fair enough, its his rules in a free house.
Normally that would be the sensible approach, yes. But two important points

1) some people enjoy complaining and making a big song and dance about minor issues

2) if the pub owner played a part in this, do you really want to give him some cash after he makes things difficult for you?

Completely agree on both points. And just so people don't get the wrong Idea on my earlier post I don't have a Blue badge nor does anyone in my family so I would not have parked in a Disabled bay wink I was merely saying what I would have done had I been the original poster. wink

Could you please point out where I've gone wrong in my understanding that double yellow lines mean no parking at any time?

They can park on double yellows if they need to just as they can exceed the speed limit if they need to. Not difficult to see why they would need to.

Easier to see the near empty car park just to their right.

They are not above the law.

Just park on the grass and be done with it, like the bloody "Openreach" vans do here, often, to work on their junction box "see in picture left hand side of road", parking here is no problem, minimal traffic, but oh no park on the grass, it's like a swamp at times, sods. furious

Lots of people (disabled / blue badge holders amongst others) can park on double yellow lines quite legally as long as they are not causing an obstruction.

I know in this case the police car is in the way, but just pointing out where you've gone wrong.

Outside my flat this morning. This car is often parked either like this or across two bays or just half way into a bay.

Parking as in the picture isn't terrible IMO. Across both bays/half in half out is though. Parking as they have means they have space to open their doors AND the car next to them also has space to do the same.

Yet another classic picture of parking spaces being too small for larger cars.
