And don't forget the double yellows, and my expensive car, and the pea sized brain, which he probably keeps where the sun don't shine.

Maidencombe beach last weekend. Free parking spaces within 20 yards on the roadside next to where I took the photo, P&D car park 100 yards down the road. Double yellow, blocking a junction, not remotely tucked into the roadside even, but the hazards are going so it's ok to leave the car for 15 minutes to go buy ice creams and then take them down to eat on the beach... rolleyes

I'd have parked there. And not gone back for it smile

It's probably the first time that particular knob chompers indicator bulbs have ever been used.

Not exactly parked but "KEEP CLEAR" and the use of a handbrake is beyond some people.
Ok - the keep clear is a given, but use of the hand brake? Seriously? You are going to set the hand brake every time you stop? wobble
Yes. Although it's been said a few times after your post, here's what the highway code says. (My bold) Note it says "MUST NOT" which means it is fineable.

You MUST NOT

use any lights in a way which would dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders
use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves to avoid dazzling other road users (see Rule 226).
In stationary queues of traffic, drivers should apply the parking brake and, once the following traffic has stopped, take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brake lights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until the traffic moves again.
OK - I happily stand corrected! I happen to live in Australia (NSW) and checked the regulations online and found nothing similar to the rules you have posted above. When I was taught to drive, the instructors never said it was a requirement either to use the handbrake in stationary traffic. Brake lights don't seem very dazzling here....

I guess the for 4 years I lived in the UK that I was breaking the law / highway code. Though it was Wales - does that count?
Wonder how this works alongside the increasing number of vehicles with auto stop start being activated by keeping foot on brake......particularly relevant with recent proposals for fining diesel engines left running....confused

Stage coach watch out, they are notorious for doing that. I am talking about the city to city ones, Aberdeen to London used to stop in Edinburgh for over half a hour, engine running.

Apparently drivers of hybrids should use the footbrake to hold the car as it increases their mpg by priming the electric motor or some such thing.

Wales is a backwater, it doesn't really count for the purposes of law.

Do they have brakelights on sheep? wink

Couldn't take a photo as it was too dark unfortunately but last night at Tesco Fulbourn (near Cambridge) a VW Transporter was taking up not 1, 2 or even 3 but 4 spaces! Car park wasn't busy so not really impacting on anyone but really but can some people just not drive?

If you can't park them, don't drive them, he had quite a wide gap on his offside, looks he just reversed in and abandoned it

I am parked hard up near side to the kerb, at least one side of my car is protected.

Yes I parked after he did, and managed to squeeze out of my door. No problem for me.

This happens a lot here, overgrown hedge and a narrow road, just after a bend in a one way so it forces people to cross or walk round.
