Copied over from this thread in SP&L - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... - where OP claimed someone had damaged his car deliberately, before deleting his posts when challenged by other users over the validity of his claims & his parking.
Is that car parked over a lawn and across a pavement, granted a gravel one? It is not a car park or even a parking space.

Parking spaces are definitely too small now so I can kind of see why people do this, though I wouldn't do it myself. I've also had my door dented by unrestrained children and idiots. What is the solution? Let your car get dented by apes or park like a tt?
Spaces are definitely too small.
Perhaps we should all park across 2 spaces. Councils would lose revenue, supermarkets would lose customers. They may then realise they need to increase the size of spaces to accommodate the cars of today.
^^Agreed^^

Also,

Space size alone doesn't make a tt out of people.
ste self important attitudes over make a tt out of people (especially when combined with a 'status' car).
Interesting views.

I don't see why having a 'status' car should be additional annoyance to anyone. I'm sure most people on here love their cars, and regardless of make or model, treasure them and would prefer others not to damage them. I can also understand the amount of people that see a car as important as the trolley they push round Tesco. But taking care not to allow yourself or your passengers damage someone else's property is simple common decency. All too many people have no regard for other peoples possessions an wouldn't know the difference between a Berlingo and a Bugatti.

I see a difference between inconsiderate and defensive parking. When I see a car parked defensively (but undamaged), I completely understand how they care more about their possession than upsetting some self important keyboard warrior and ending up with a pic of their car on here with some insults thrown in. Especially if its a nicestatus car.

A guy with a family was parked next to one of my "classics" the other day in Waitrose....quite close, as I was returning as he was loading his car with shopping and the two kids. He was showing his son how to keep the door away from my car as he opened it...I thanked him for his care, he at first looked surprised but smiled with pride as his 8/10 year old said with out a prompt "we did not want to scratch your car"....there is a well trained lad who will one day join the collective

Well done to the lad and his parents for bringing him up to be considerate of others.

Defensive parking is fine when it's considerate, but when there are only one or two remaining spaces in a car park, or a dedicate space for the disabled, like many of these keyboard warriors as you call them have highlighted - then it's not considerate. It's self importance.

Your idea of a status car is not the same as mine. I'm not talking high end sports motors at all.

Good of you to clarify those points.
I agree with you. Wholeheartedly.

I had just edited my earlier post to say that:

Parking on the outside line on the end of a space is acceptable to people.

But, parking a 5yo 'Prestige' car or even an old shed in two spaces through some sort of self-importance quest, simply because all the 'good' spaces are taken, is simply selfish.

That second one, is what we see too many times on these pages.

that's the thing though - your 'shed' is someone else's P&J, even if it's a £500 'only fit for the scrappy' PoS it could well be all they can afford and as such are insanely protective of it (doesn't excuse stty parking mind)

None of my cars have ever been damaged in a car park.

The black car you can see above the red taxi is parked in an empty car park.

You lucky man. Four of mine have had damage from idiots in car parks bad enough to need remedial work in a garage.

Looks like a council mower did that (see SP&L).
