Duct tape is the answer..............

Not that I would.

White masking tape to line up with the actual markings...?
Thinking more of the lines what they did in the forces. Duct tape across the windscreen, and magic marker saying "Don't park here", it's a bugger getting the tape off. You didn't do that twice.

both of these qualify for a FPN of parking on DYL

Not many people know that the restriction is from the extreme edges of the highway.ie wll to wall or hedge to hedge.
I bet they think tht as they are 'outside' the DYL they are OK where is the plod or a council CEO when you need them

Unless the lines don't run through, you must be taking up 2 spaces?

I am. Principally because of the number of people who can't park. Most of the car park is made up of 2 spaces between 2 concrete pillars.
My favourite space is the single space between to pillars as no-one was ever brave enough to go for those, until someone started parallel parking over two spaces (length-wise).

As there are plenty of spaces available I tend to go for two wide so no-one parkes next to me.

This example from work looks like the kind of situation in which the occupant(s) of the vehicle had gotten out long before the vehicle was stationary:
