I quite like these. Though, given the cost you can see why you see so few of them around.

A fool and his money are soon parted, that's the phrase that springs to mind.

£31.5K! I stopped reading the article then and there. I don't care how good it is, that is just ludicrous.
It would be ludicrous if it was £31.5k. Only slight issue in your thought process being that they are closer to £22k after discount. You really don't need to add fast depreciating options.

The car as tested in this article is £31.5K car, there is always about £7-8K of options on these vehicles for journalists thus the car gets a better review. Only slight issue with your thought process is that the cheapest discounted price I can find a a new S1 with NO optional extras at all is £23,946.70 from finance4cars.co.uk, a FIesta ST3... £17,418.15

My point still stands, it's ridiculous money for what it is, you are paying through the nose for a badge. Is a completely base spec S1 worth £6K more than a top spec ST...?

There was a time when I would have been interested in an Audi, but not anymore. Take themselves far too seriously. Yes, they make nice, well equipped cars, but they tend to be a little bland.
I remember a time when the 4 rings weren't a premium car - but another VW wannabe.

A fiesta is 4wd down and 70bhp down, a focus St would be closer power wide

But the Feisty Fiesta is lighter and suffers less transmission losses. I personally like the look of the Ford over the Audi

So there you go

No doubt the Fiesta is better value. But the S1 is definitely not £31.5k, which should be pretty obvious. 9% off is easily achievable off the (good std spec) base car. Probably more when the car will have been launched for as long at the Ford. M135i far better value than either IMO anyway. And obviously the depreciation factor needs to be taken account of when comparing.

70bhp? For another £700 with the Fiesta you have the warrentied Mountune map. So 215bhp vs 231bhp... Isn't that 16bhp difference? Correct me if I am wrong? And I wouldn't want my Fiesta with 4WD, it doesn't need it, if anything it would make the car worse IMO.

Neil, do you have Fiesta ST3 with a Mountune kit by any chance ? :-)

It must be a great car and would also be my choice against a S1 but we all like different things, there is no wrong or right.

I did have, but now it has more power than an S1. smile

You are spot on, I'd wager the S1 is a refined, competent, very quick little car... But, it's just that price as tested, it's Golf R money!
