RE: Audi S1: UK Review
Discussion
At £25k this seemed like good value to me, for a brand new audi pocket rocket. Then I went onto audi's configurator and configured one as I would have it and the price jumped to £33k! Some of the things I had to spec should be standard IMO on a 2014 £25k audi such as auto-dimming rear view mirror.
I'm sure it goes well enough, but for me it just doesn't have the presence of a £30k car.
The A1 is a decent enough car, but for me its natural position is as a £15-20k car, which would probably buy you a 1.2 S Line which would look near enough identical to the S1, bar the ridiculous exhausts.
If it had to be an Audi, my £30k would go on a new boggo S3, or a nicely specced dealer demo.

+1 Just looked on the Audi site and the auto dim mirror is even an option on an S3....and to think BMW used to take stick for their mean specsAbso-f##ka-lutely ghastly this car.... where too start !
- looks cack (at least the basic A1 is not trying to be anything other than a premium shopping trolley)
- how much for this shopping trolley?
- too few cylinders for that price
- too many exhausts for that engine
- the list of preferable alternatives new or second hand for this price point!

Careful now. Such attitude may land you in trouble with the PH gearbox police.
Yes but most of the people who whinge aren't going to go and buy a brand new car. Having driven the new S3 in both manual and S Tronic guise, why they even offer a manual gearbox genuinely baffles me. SaqibCTR said:
Why so heavy?
I didn't think it was too bad to be honest - less than 100kg heavier than a Renault Clio 197 and it's got a 4wd system plus they specked the 18" alloys and bigger tyres ( over the 17s and 'skinny' tyres ) on the test car that Autocar weighed - 1365kg with a full tank.George29 said:
Going to test one of these this weekend. Won't be ordering until the S-Tronic gearbox is available on it though. Utterly stupid move to make this manual only.
No more stupid than only offering s-tronic would have been having the choice would have been better, but at the end of the day this is a hot hatch not a peusdo track car or luxo barge, the manual box suits it just fine imoNah not for me.
Audi just seem so bland these days. There is just nothing exciting with the brand or the cars that they produce.
Its the same old story - nice interior, boxy corporate look and steering feedback akin to driving with oven gloves on.
The A1 reminds me of a pokemon character or something - can't think what exactly. Maybe it's a busy little bee? I don't know...!
It will get lapped up by the twentysomethings that wear fake glasses, have an app for everything and enjoy milling around sipping coffee at some high street bar.
Come to think of it; I really dislike Audi cars.
