also, even when in the uppermost setting (surprisingly enough) the wheels are still on the ground, so there is no greater distance between axle and ground than there is at any setting. How do you get the axle stand under there?
Axle stands dont always go between the axle and the ground, i usually put them on jack points (as i much prefer having the car sitting solid, rather then on springs.)

Pretty clever trick that..
i think you're referring to something else there. Axle stands go under axles.
Not necessarily, they can go anywhere. It's merely a generic term for a stand. You can use them on jacking points, subframes or even -gasp- on axles.
Correct. The BMW e39 doesn't have anywhere 'axel-wise' to put axel stands so the accepted practice is to use them at the jacking points

That should be a joke, but the majority of 911 GT3 owners that I know (myself included obviously) really have used the rear spoiler as an impromptu picnic table paperbag

When I had my Supra a lovely policeman used the spoiler as a table to write out a speeding ticket.

I have a certain grudging admiration for him for having identified that niche and exploited it. The recent series on television was cringeworthy, though.
He was on the Eamonn & Ruth 'Millionaires' show tonight (C5), saying the products he sold were anything but chavvy, then it showed a gold plated iPad and six-wheel Land Rover they sold...

He then (just for a change...) wheeled out his '£2 million Bugatti Veyron that has a number plate that cost five times as much as the vehicle itself'. Last I heard, he said he'd turned down £6m for it, but now he's saying it's worth £10m? It's amazing that newspapers and people behind TV shows just take this guy at his word. Although... I'd believe it if he said the F1 plate had got him £10m worth of free publicity.

Bloke that I know with a C4 Corvette does exactly the same thing and I am sure that the spoiler on my Mustang GT is only there to act as a handle to lift the boot lid.

It was parked very close to the Royal Albert Hall. Somewhat of a contrast in style!

It's rare to see an empty parking space around there.

I like this in a "Hot Wheelz" way, should be lowered or air-ridden for the full effect.

Funnily enough, I was just about to post the same link.

As for what's going on in his head, I suspect it is illegal and there is way too much of it!

Not entirely sure how this has come about; Citroen cut funding to the Paris-Dakar team maybe?

Just an air suspended C5 in the highest (service) position for the suspension. They didn't provide a jack with the air-sprung systems, if you got a flat you would put the suspension to highest, insert the axle stand provided, then set it to its lowest/normal setting - hey presto the wheel rises and the car's jacked up.
Citroen didn't use anything so common as air. It's nitrogen gas with a mineral oil
i'd have thought that the term "hydro-pneumatic" would mean it was some kind of watery air mix...
"Hydraulics" refers to any liquid fluid power; pneumatics relates to gaseous fluid power.
Guessing they changed it for the C6 as mine has a jack not an axle stand...

The hydractive system is based on an LHM/LDS as a fluid system which is controlled via spheres which are also pressurised with Nitrogen, obviously it has an electronic brain controlling it per se.
