Not entirely sure how this has come about; Citroen cut funding to the Paris-Dakar team maybe?

The longer you look at it, the worse it gets... Saw the front pic and though "well yes, i hate those wheels, the stick on vents are tosh, and the red calipers might be a bit over the top for a simple focus... Then i looked at the back vomit, went back to the front and noticed the awful mirrors.. yuck.

That car should just be scrapped when its current abuser is done with it, no point in trying to salvage that pile.

indeed - the thing is that a LOT of money has been spent wasted there and it all seems to be to a very high standard (from the non-enlargeable pics). But I guess a turd is still a turd

talking of turds....

have you seen the video of that stupid mx-5? I think that's an old photo as the guy appears to have added some large crap to cover the top of the wheels.

Just an air suspended C5 in the highest (service) position for the suspension. They didn't provide a jack with the air-sprung systems, if you got a flat you would put the suspension to highest, insert the axle stand provided, then set it to its lowest/normal setting - hey presto the wheel rises and the car's jacked up.

So when you put it back to the lowest position, the other 3 wheels somehow pivot that 4th wheel, off the ground?

also, even when in the uppermost setting (surprisingly enough) the wheels are still on the ground, so there is no greater distance between axle and ground than there is at any setting. How do you get the axle stand under there?

Axle stands dont always go between the axle and the ground, i usually put them on jack points (as i much prefer having the car sitting solid, rather then on springs.)

Pretty clever trick that..

Citroen didn't use anything so common as air. It's nitrogen gas with a mineral oil

i'd have thought that the term "hydro-pneumatic" would mean it was some kind of watery air mix...

"Hydraulics" refers to any liquid fluid power; pneumatics relates to gaseous fluid power.

The wheels are gash, but standard. I had the same ones on my old Focus.

In the early days of the technology, it was called oléopneumatique

They had that fantastic ad with a fish suspended from a balloon to explain it. Brilliantly, whackily French.

That should be a joke, but the majority of 911 GT3 owners that I know (myself included obviously) really have used the rear spoiler as an impromptu picnic table paperbag

Not necessarily, they can go anywhere. It's merely a generic term for a stand. You can use them on jacking points, subframes or even -gasp- on axles.
