does anybody know what the "IS-Racing BBK" stands for?

May be referring to a lighter-weight, uprated braking system.

Yes, that's true and I'm tempted to have one too. However I'll say that the Golf R might be a good all rounder but NOT good through bred performance car. All out performance you cannot compare it with for example an M3.

The G7R is already faster to 60mph than the previous-generation M3s.

A few hours down the remap shop for a simple, cheap, stage1 tune makes the G7R faster to 60 and faster to 100 than the new M3.

And the Golf R400 next year will crush the M3 and M4 to 60 and 100.

The GTI 1 ushered in the hot-hatch era in 1975. The R 7 has ushered in the super-hatch era in 2013 / 2014.

Really are you saying no car was there before it? Howsabout the impreza STI hatch doing the same thing years ago? Did that not "usher in an era"? or perhaps the Lancia Delta Integrale and Escort Cosworth etc did it 20 years ago?

Saying the Golf has somehow ushered in an era that these cars have been representing for years just seems like fanboyism unless you just forgot that others have been around a long time.

Rally geeks? Really? This is a petrolhead site.

So how is "the game changing" as you put it?

Imprezas, Integrales and Cosworths are great cars, but they are for rally geeks and chavsters.

The Golf R can be driven by everyone, from chavs to millionaires.

And to look at the bigger picture -- the Golf R is step 1... step 2 is the R400 and AMG A45 "Black Series"... both of which will soon be M3- and 911-killers at lower prices.

The Golf R is selling in much bigger volumes than VW expected (currently up to 6 months' wait for a new one, which is long, by VW and other standards)... Once the other major car makers get wind of the R's popularity, they are going to join the race to build the best superhatch -- the Ford ST and RS models, for example, are already starting to look a little slow and dated by comparison (a second or more slower to 60mph).

Many seem to be struggling to comprehend the shift that is taking place before their eyes.

VW (and MB) have upped their game.

The R and R400 (and A45) are game-changers.

With a mere 90bhp available, progress is too leisurely to be called fast but on the motorway in fifth gear the Golf R’s slow pace really becomes a pain. Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair.

A £500 remap solves that.
