It's probably been said already but is this chap the sort of chap that puts his hand into a live toaster just because someone told him it was incredibly dangerous to do so?
No, he's the sort of chap that would do it if there was a crowd of people watching him.

I am a driver and team manager of one of the cars in the affected race and I don’t feel sorry for the lad.
Hear, hear. Well said.
He's only saying that to look coooool!!!! wink

We are all well out off pocket and teams like Holden (who are all good chaps and all bloody good drivers dammit) were hit with poor points on a race that favoured them. The guy is a fool, no question but lost his Father 18 months or so ago, I'm not condoling this behaviour in any way, just shedding some light maybe as to his YOLO attitude. Is he worth a second chance, I don't know, I've never met the lad, but my gut says he's worth a chance. I am the devils advocate and happy to try to balance the argument if at all possible. What's done is done, time to move on, forgive and forget!!!

However, it is not just about Cottle. It is about other idiots who might try this in the future.

There is always precedent in a legal case; "M'lud, I refer you to the case of Full Throttle Cottle who did the same things as my client and drove on a race track during a race. He only received a mild telling off and his pocket money stopped for a week. As such, the suggestion of an 8 month jail term is unfair."

Standards need to be set, a line in the sand that discourage others.

There are plenty of people who lose loved ones but they are not all prone to idiotic behaviour. That is an excuse.

He has to take responsibility for his actions which he failed to do after the incident.

The downside of the sentence is that he'll become a folk hero amongst the morons he hangs out with and his bruvvers on Facebook.
Unfortunately that is probably true. "Do they teach kids right from wrong now days?"

May be he should have received a suspended sentence on condition that if he posts any more incomprehensible unpunctuated text twaddle anywhere on line he'll be going straight inside.
A folk hero for doing 8 months in the clink and being gifted a very sore arse, what a total tt!

Just watched the video. What an absolute d@@k head.

Scaring the s@@t out of his girlfriend, completely oblivious to the dangers, showing no respect to those who are racing, or motor racing in general. It's not even his car to do it in!

Deserves everything he gets.

I agree and generally tow the line on the sentence due to the "making an example" statement etc etc. I just felt that the argument needed some balancing. The fact he recorded his stupidity for all to see again and again was ultimately his own down-fall. I feel there could still be some positivity from all this negativity, is it likely to happen? very doubtful, but who knows???.......

I had some idiot, funnily enough also in a Poolo, think it funny to 'nudge' me with his gutless excuse for a car when I was out on my bike (pedal). What he failed to realise was I was doing circa 25mph, he was clearly doing at least 10mph-15mph more than me and even at those relatively low speeds a little nudge is NOT just a little nudge, i was pretty lucky not to have ended up with injury. I have no sympathy for these brainless t@ssers. Deserve everything they get. They just make the country look untidy.
